A pretty decent beer. On tap at the Tap Room. Dark, rich, red color. Very smooth and hints of fruit.

tap-hop in the city 05-pours dark amber with a small beige head. malty aroma with some significant oxidization. malty flavors with some cardboard in there as well. a hit of vanilla. just not that good. nothing really striking here. some fruity notes on the finish.

Pours a reddish/orange, thin head, great lacing. Aroma is grassy and hoppy, sweet fruits. Flavor is apricots, dark fruit, slight spice, sweet malts, and a grassy finish.

Clear dark golden brown. Slight aroma of oranges, nutmeg and other spices, very sweet smelling. Firm and full texture, a bit of whiskey and alcohol mid-drink, with some wood and roasted bananas in the finish. Quite good, though not exactly to style. Feels like big ABV (~ 10%).

Not one of the better Schlafly offerings, deep amber color as the description suggests, but this beer had a roasty quality to it that you'd more likely find in an O'fest or a Vienna. There was maybe a little spice, but this beer was hardly true to the style.

This rating was from the Hop In The City event where brews from the previous year were sampled (5 oz) by the attendees from kegs. This brew poured a small head of finely sized mostly diminishing bubbles that left behind a transparent light brown colored body and a fair lacing. It had a very strong licorice nose and smooth palate. The malt flavor was overpowered by the licorice flavor.

Good God this was oxidized at the Hop in the City. I can’t believe they didn’t just toss this stuff. Ill be back with a re-rate if i can get a decent, non-oxidized version at the Tap Room.
