Slight aroma of oranges, nutmeg and other spices, very sweet smelling. Firm and full texture, a bit of whiskey and alcohol mid-drink, with some wood and roasted bananas in the finish. Quite good, though not exactly to style. Feels like big ABV (~ 10%). thedm (3836), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Sep 20, 2003 This rating was from the Hop In The City event where brews from the previous year were sampled (5 oz) by the attendees from kegs. This brew poured a small head of finely sized mostly diminishing bubbles that left behind a transparent light brown colored body and a fair lacing. It had a very strong licorice nose and smooth palate. The malt flavor was overpowered by the licorice flavor. Braudog (3770), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jul 18, 2007 Draft at the Taproom. Reddish brown, looking more like an American Brown Ale. Light aroma of cooked sugars, relatively smooth at first, but then bites back as it slides down. Still pretty mild for a dubbel, but a good brew. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Nov 27, 2001 A bit light for thi style. Lacking body and sweetness. Maybe needs more dark malt? No head retemtion. Gotta give them credit though for brewing this hard to find style. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 12, 2007 Pours chestnut brown with a light haze and an off-white head. The aroma is overly sweet with caramel, brown sugar and syrup. Medium body with a good bit of crispness and then fairly cloying on the finish. The flavor starts out sweet, but then some astringency and cardboard comes in. The finish has a mix of dryness and syrupiness. Certainly not a true dubbel, but okay if you look at it as a brewpub doing an American version of one. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Sep 16, 2006 Pour is a brown with a small white head. Aroma is malts and a big dose of alcohol. Flavor is a complete miss. No real candy sugar or fruitness. Some malts show up and again with the alcohol but that’s about it. Their triple is decent..this not so much. igneous1 (1374), Davenport, Iowa, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jan 24, 2004 Not one of the better Schlafly offerings, deep amber color as the description suggests, but this beer had a roasty quality to it that you'd more likely find in an O'fest or a Vienna. There was maybe a little spice, but this beer was hardly true to the style.
