Commercial Description:
This French farmhouse-style ale has tart fruitiness from the yeast and a sweet maltiness from the grains. A modern re-creation of a classic European beer style to celebrate St. Louis’s French heritage. Pairs well with fruits, cheeses, and cured meats. Debuted at the 2007 HOP in the City Festival Beer, unfiltered. Bottles will be filtered and then bottle-conditioned.

A golden amber color. I can see chunks of sediment in the bottom of my glass. It leaves a huge fluffy white head.Has a sweet yet earthy smell. Carmel malt and yeast are kind of subtle.Taste is sweet in the begining and very tart on the end. I kind of makes your mouth water a bit. Sour apple taste mixed with grapes and a little lemon flavor. It changes as you drink it.

Appearance: Pours a near clear, golden-amber body with a fine, white head. Smell: Gentle toasted caramel malts alongside aromas of fresh fruits, flowers, and, to a lesser degree, spices. Taste: Lightly toasty, subtly sweet maltiness yields to tangy, fruity flavors of pears and apricots. Minute hint of alcohol. Thin trace of aniseed. Floral, herbal hop character with a light bitterness. Fruity, semi-dry, crisp finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-high, engaging carbonation. Drinkability: Well, that’s fairly nice; a real, honest thirst quencher. Deep down, we’re all striving for a great Bière de Garde. Schlafly’s offering comes pretty close.

Clear amber orange with a thin ring of wispy white head. Aroma of lightly sweet toasty caramel malt and some mild grainy character and a touch of fruity esters and clove. Starts with a nice light malty sweetness and a touch of clove spice and mild fruity tartness before a drier, toasty finish. A good biere de garde.

750 bottle. Pours hazy gold with a big fluffy head. NIce funky, spicy nose. Taste is light, a bit fruity, spicy, tart with some sweetness. Body is smooth and drinkable. Dry end with a bit of funk. Well done and I’ll buy some more when I’m in St Louis.

750 ml bottle shared by my friend Matt. Pour is brown, copper and orange - slightly hazed, with a one inch white head. Aroma of spicy citrus and sweet honey matliness. Nice pepper note. Taste is sweet honey caramel maltiness mostly, floral white pepper spiciness behind that. Yeasty. Palate is medium, grainy, with a fair amount of carbonation. Interesting, and well done.

Thanks to PhillyBeer for the taste. Aroma is apples and caramel. Flavor follows suit with caramel apples and a slight citrus bitterness.
