Honest cereals and herbal hops meld into spicy honeyed sweetness in this suave and very drinkable Bière de Garde which cleverly advertises its farmhouse character.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the misty orangey blond.
-Some tangerine-like tart fruitiness tags along.
-The body is round and smoothly carbonated.
-The overall flavor profile is balanced throughout.

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 7, 2008 Medium amber body with a light khaki head. Lots of small carbonation bubbles. The aroma is fairly sweet, like unfermented wort. There is also some cake donuts and apples. The mouthfeel is fairly highly carbonated, but it’s still soft. The taste has bread crust and more unfermented wort. There is also some apple chip character. A decent brew that makes me think about summer. Rastacouere (5553), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Apr 3, 2008 Objectively speaking:
My first Schlafly. A moment I’ve been expecting for years. A rather hoppy example, yet with rich, chewy malts underneath. Americanized, but respectful and masterly crafted.
I like:
Beautiful champaigny looks. Tight white head. Fresh cereal nose. Original pumpkin notes. Spicy display without letting varietals being picked out. Fair dose of herbal hops fit perfectly. Full-bodied, but not thick. Expansive carbonation feels authentic. Very engaging from start to finish.
I dislike:
I like it all. Original and delicious! Not so much yeast nuance, but it just lets the rest shine. Braudog (3762), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 2, 2008 From a beautiful bottle. Rusty red with a staying wisp of light foam. The aroma is almost smoky, can it be? This drinks with a fantasticly rounded complement of fruity esthers, a hint of active yeasts and a base of sweet malt. This is a beauty. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 20, 2008 Pour is clear amber with a nice tight bubbled off white head...smell is lightly funky but more so of old shoe leather than farmhouse...taste is lightly sweet and also faintly citric with a quick leathery finish... hopscotch (5483), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 29, 2008 Bottle... Hazy golden ale with a large, creamy, white head. Decent retention. The aroma is spicy and grainy, providing notes of cornbread, light clove and white pepper. Medium to full-bodied with tingly carbonation. Sweet and spicy, but well-bittered on the backside for an excellent facade of balance. Lengthy, spicy, lightly bitter finish. Stylistically speaking, it’s spot-on! | 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Feb 27, 2008 Hmm am I the only one who thought this was a diacetyl bomb? Poured a gold copper color with a medium sized white head. Big diacetyl aroma and flavor with a slippery mouthfeel. So much that I couldn’t concentrate on any redeeming characters it might have. Sorry. Cletus (5055), Connecticut, USA
