Commercial Description:
This French farmhouse-style ale has tart fruitiness from the yeast and a sweet maltiness from the grains. A modern re-creation of a classic European beer style to celebrate St. Louis’s French heritage. Pairs well with fruits, cheeses, and cured meats. Debuted at the 2007 HOP in the City Festival Beer, unfiltered. Bottles will be filtered and then bottle-conditioned.

Bottled (0,75 ltr, HBF, thanks Markku K). Clear amber color, small white head. Caramel, cheese, mild hops in the nose. Alcohol, hops backed with caramel maltyness. Not really biere de garde, more like "imperial amber ale": Balanced.

Objectively speaking: My first Schlafly. A moment I’ve been expecting for years. A rather hoppy example, yet with rich, chewy malts underneath. Americanized, but respectful and masterly crafted.
I like: Beautiful champaigny looks. Tight white head. Fresh cereal nose. Original pumpkin notes. Spicy display without letting varietals being picked out. Fair dose of herbal hops fit perfectly. Full-bodied, but not thick. Expansive carbonation feels authentic. Very engaging from start to finish.
I dislike: I like it all. Original and delicious! Not so much yeast nuance, but it just lets the rest shine.

(750ml bottle) Pours a cloudy golden body with a medium off-white head. Flavor of orange peel, caramel, clove, and light pineapple. Flavor of clove, orange peel, earthiness, toasted malt, and some tropical fruits (pineapple, banana, papaya).

Clear amber orange with a thin ring of wispy white head. Aroma of lightly sweet toasty caramel malt and some mild grainy character and a touch of fruity esters and clove. Starts with a nice light malty sweetness and a touch of clove spice and mild fruity tartness before a drier, toasty finish. A good biere de garde.
