zapprentice (309), East Setauket, New York, USA Nov 3, 2009 Not going to lie. I don’t totally remember this beer but whatever. Aroma is of roasted malt and sweets, flavor similar. tokyogoat (505), San Diego, California, USA Oct 25, 2009 2007 vintage tasted 9/09
Pours pitch black with a big toasted marshmallow head.
Nose was strong of bourbon, oak, chocolate, and raisin.
Taste was hot, boozy, and thin. LilBeerDoctor (1479), East Setauket, New York, USA Oct 24, 2009 2008 bottle with the immense packaging. Pours black with a small light tan head. Aroma if roasted malt, sweet cereal malt. Flavor is odd- sweet malt, cardboard. No bourbon at all really. This is a mediocre imperial stout and a sub-par bourbon-barrel impy. I’m not impressed.
7/4/5/3/12 [3.1/5] kcdoom (17), merriam, Kansas, USA Oct 21, 2009 2007 btl. nice nose of bourbon with hints of vanilla and faint coffee. palate of bourbon and niec thick stout with a dense bourbon burn on the aftertaste. nice, but not in the same league as abyss or founders kbs. Cavie (1289), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Oct 18, 2009 Bottle courtesy of Zinister. Dark dark pour. Smells of sweet coffee and chocolate malts. Flavor is nice but knocks of sweetness. Awwwww great! l1br4r14n (274), Washington, Washington DC, USA Oct 15, 2009 Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, dark fruit. Flavor is very nutty, some caramel, and became more like hazelnut syrup as I drank more. Meh. cprochak (387), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 10, 2009 2008 750 mL bottle pours jet black with a little tan head. Good caramel and bourbon aroma, touch of earthy pine. Very nice sweetness and balanced bourbon flavors. Bourbon and caramel linger on the tongue. Pretty solid bourbon stout that i’d drink again. jasonp (1504), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA Oct 3, 2009 Pours a very dark brown with a light brown head. Moderate intensity aroma of vanilla. oak, mocha and a little alcohol. Flavor-wise, the malt character is simply some base malt, sweet caramel, brown sugar and light chocolate - not really any overly aggresive roasty or charred notes. Then comes a nice nutty, woody bourbon/oak/vanilla flavor. Not too over-the-top or boozy. The body’s a bit thin for an imperial stout but ok enough to make the drinking experience enjoyable. It’s been done better, but for what it is, it’s a still nice beer.
