Commercial Description:
Around the time of the Louisiana purchase, beer was shipped in barrels. if one had been lucky enough to receive a used Bourbon barrel of Imperial Stout, this is what his/her happy taste buds would have encountered: roasty, rich, malty imperial stout with a strong dose of caramel, oak, and Bourbon character. This is the perfect beer to pair with hearty, cold weather dishes, smoked meats, and virtually any dessert.

From the bottle pours dark brown with no head. Bourbon in the nose and a soft sourness. Chocolate and caramel of front, mild roast, with a dry oakiness and soft sourness to the finish. Very fruity, which when blended with the chocolate up front gives off a sort of truffle flavor.

750ml bottle, 2007 vintage. Dark, slightly transparent pour with very little head. Slightly oakey, vanilla aroma, very subtle though. More vanilla flavor as well, light caramel and a hint of the bourbon maybe at the end. Very nice beer.

(bottle - 750 ml - 2007 vintage) Thick dark brown color with a very thin layer of tan head that fades quickly. Aroma is roasty and dark with hints roasted malts, chocolate, bourbon, wood, vanilla, smoke, and alcohol. Flavor is very sweet and malty at the beginning, probably from the bourbon aging, and gives way to a roasted middle that blends well with some chocolate and coffee notes along with a very apparently alcohol presence, and finishes with a dark and fruity but slightly sweet note. Some vanilla and oak linger at the end. Very thick and chewy.

Bottle courtesy of markwise. Pours a hazy dark brown to black color with a thin tan head. Aromais sweet and malty with notes of wood, brandy, vanilla, oak, some slight notes of ripe dark fruit and smoke. Flavor is also malty and sweet with stronger ripe dark fruit, molasses, and bourbon notes with overtones of vanilla, roasted malt, coffee. Generally medium to full body with a pleasing warming finish.

courtesy of markwise. Another great offering from the amazing guys at Schlafly. Pours black with golden/yellow head, leaving a nice light yellow lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, very faint notes of bourbon/wood.. Taste, sweet with notes of vanilla, bourbon, roasted malts and oak. Overall bourbon remained on the weak side, but enjoyable none the less. At 10.5abv, this is a very taste brew, slow sipper. Would def. get better with some aging.

07 Vintage. Interesting beer. Pours dark brown with nice tan head. Aroma is bourbon, oak, chocolate, vanilla, alcohol burn. Flavor is alcohol with chocolate, vanilla, and lots of bourbon. Lacks a lot of the malt character present in other bourbon barrel stouts.
