I drank this one while I watched someone lose in football and it pissed me off. wasnt the panthers either. Pours out a dark color without much of a head on it. Smell is heavily roasted coffee and chocolate and a nice subtle hint of bourbon in it. Taste is very thick, rich, and full bodied. Took a while to drain this 750, but it was done. A really good BB impy; perhaps the closest thing I have found to black gold. I would drink this again, any time any day. blklab2007 (965), Connecticut, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 10, 2009 2007 bottle poured into a snifter had a dark chestnut brown color and did produce a thick frothy tan head when poured from some distance. aroma has roasted coffee, dark chocolate, bourbon, oak, oats, and some funky basement. heavy mouth feel that coats the tongue. flavor has a good dose of roasted coffee and it needs to be to stand with the bourbon and toasted barrel. vanilla, sticky sweetness, alcohol, and chocolate mix nicely. this has mellowed nicely and has a nice warming to it but still is plenty chewy. Medium body with a silky smooth mouthfeel. Good roasty, toasty, woody, nutty, blackened malt flavors with a bourbon vanilla sweetness. Most tasty. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jan 2, 2009 750 mL bottle. Poured a deep brown, nearly black with a three finger tan head. Aroma was huge and delicious. Notes of bourbon and vanilla dominate, with touches of chocolate and roasted malt present as well. The flavor was excellent and creamy as well. Strong vanilla and oak present, with a small hint of bourbon. Roasted malt is present in the base, but only as a carrier for the other flavors present. Very full bodied, with only a slight bit of carbonation. This is the best Schlafly beer I’ve sampled. jcwattsrugger (5393), Florida and, New Jersey, USA

Brown in color almost black but lets some light through. Decent head. Taste is alot of oak/bourbon a little overdone. Chocolate roasted malt taste. Texture was thin but not watery. Not bad but not great.... Thanks robert for opening this beer.
