Commercial Description:
Around the time of the Louisiana purchase, beer was shipped in barrels. if one had been lucky enough to receive a used Bourbon barrel of Imperial Stout, this is what his/her happy taste buds would have encountered: roasty, rich, malty imperial stout with a strong dose of caramel, oak, and Bourbon character. This is the perfect beer to pair with hearty, cold weather dishes, smoked meats, and virtually any dessert.

Boxed 2008 750 mL bottle from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville. Pours a dark chestnut brown color with a thin head. Aroma is roasted malts, bourbon, oak, coconut, vanilla. Taste is strong bourbon with roasted malts, coffee, vanilla, cotton candy. Full bodied. Slightly bitter. Interesting and pretty good.

Bottle shared by robert at stateline. Oak aroma duh??? Brown in color almost black but lets some light through. Decent head. Taste is alot of oak/bourbon a little overdone. Chocolate roasted malt taste. Texture was thin but not watery. Not bad but not great.... Thanks robert for opening this beer.

Pours root beer brown with an unattractive light tan head that turns in to a film across the top. Thin in the pour and the mouthfeel. Nose is chocolate, roasted malt and a bit of oak. The flavor is a bit like vinous fruits and some malt astringency. Bitter coffee finish.

Bottle. Pours a dense, syrupy black. Yields no head, but keeps a thin lacing. This stout burns like a whisky. Very good warmer.

2008 Vintage. Poured a coal black color with a deep tan head. Aroma was coffee, caramel and a little bit of nuttiness (maybe the oak?) Flavor was deep, a little bitter, some good dark malt flavors and maybe just a hint of bourbon. Really thick beer though. Coated your mouth. This one might have been a bit more interesting with some age on it.

2006 vintage bottle from bleeng at December Houston tasting. Thanks! Pours thick black with an off-white head and an aroma of thick bourbon and hints of wood chip and caramel. Flavor is vegetable bourbon yeast dough and earth. Full and coating mouthfeel. Too earthy for my taste.

750 2006 version. Shared at Houston Impy Stout tasting. Pours black, filtered. Nose of bourbon and alcohol with malts and sweetness. Taste of whiskey but a bit subtle. Very malty, fluffy, sweet. A bit dry on the end. This has aged very nicely. Very drinkable and a nice beer to share.
