Commercial Description:
Around the time of the Louisiana purchase, beer was shipped in barrels. if one had been lucky enough to receive a used Bourbon barrel of Imperial Stout, this is what his/her happy taste buds would have encountered: roasty, rich, malty imperial stout with a strong dose of caramel, oak, and Bourbon character. This is the perfect beer to pair with hearty, cold weather dishes, smoked meats, and virtually any dessert.

2007 bottle brown almost black with good sized head, nice lacing, bourbon is predominant on the nose, some choc and coffee but big bourbon. flavor is similar lotsa bourbon but not overpowering, good malts some choc, a little thin for an impy stout but still very good, need to get another bottle and age.

2007 bottle. Pours a darkish brown with a light khaki head. Nice bourbon aroma. Flavor is smooth and balanced. Hints of vanilla, caramel, some toffee notes. Roasted notes at the finish. Just the slightest bit of warming alcohol. Really well done.

2007 bottle. Pours a clearish reddish brown for an imperial stout with a faint lose tan head. Oaky bourbon is slight, light sweet chocolate, low roast, not intense at all. Thin fizzy body for style with a hint of viscosity. Sweet with acidity. Bourbon boozy oak, vanilla. Lingering oak with a cola acidity finish. Not a huge fan... can’t see this aging well.

750 ml thanks to drmatt. Pours a dark blackish color with a tan head. Very nice lacing. The aroma was prominently bourbon and alcohol. The taste was bourbon, but also oak, roasty, nutty and a hint of chocolate. Mouthfeel was medium-to-thick and creamy with alcohol present. Better than what I had hoped after reading a few previous ratings.

NOTB; Schlafly was definitely the surprise of the night for me. Sampled this one after the Ten Fidy and thought this was far superior. Nicely balanced; aging didn’t overpower this beer, but rather complimented it. Nice roasted and chocolate elements. Hopefully KieferUGA still has a bottle of this one.

750 ml, 2007 vintage. Opaque black with a smallish, but lasting creamy cappuccino head. Mild aroma is a pleasant mix of chocolate, raisins, molasses, coffee and char. Flavor is mild mix of the same, until the bourbon, oak, and vanilla kick in. Wow, the mildness of the other typical Impy flavors are initially overpowered by the barrel-aged flavors, but this one is good once I get my bearings. Chocolate, caramel, and cola flavors emerge from under the barrel after a while. Heavy body is mostly smooth and slightly syrupy, but dry and alcohol-tingly on the finish. Maybe a bit rough and might need a little more cellaring to take the edge off, but still pretty nice.

EBF NOTB. Nice dark pour. Aroma has subtle alcohol, sweet malt, a small amount of roasted character, and semi-sweet chocolate. The flavor is the same, nicely balanced and the barrel aging didn’t overtake this one.

Bottle @ the wolf tasting. Black with ruby edges and a brown film. Aroma of nuts, chocolate and oak. Flavour of raisins, sweet chocolate, nuts and nicely vinious.
