Commercial Description:
Around the time of the Louisiana purchase, beer was shipped in barrels. if one had been lucky enough to receive a used Bourbon barrel of Imperial Stout, this is what his/her happy taste buds would have encountered: roasty, rich, malty imperial stout with a strong dose of caramel, oak, and Bourbon character. This is the perfect beer to pair with hearty, cold weather dishes, smoked meats, and virtually any dessert.

On tap at the Flying Saucer in Kansas City. This pours a deep black with a tiny espresso swirl style head. The aroma is a little cardboardy with some coffee and plenty of whisky. The flavor is the kicker here immediately there was this chocolate milk like flavor that slowly fades to an enormous bourbon flavor with plenty of oaky tones and a deep roasted character, a very nice tasting beer. here. I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

750ml 2008 bottle, drank in May 2009. Opaque brown-black color. Minimal, lacy around the edges, head. The aroma is smooth and chocolaty, not unlike a full bodied porter, a hint of coffee. The taste is warm, full, and bitter sweet. Excellently rounded out, these is some bourbon in the syrupy smoothness, but it doesnt dominate the flavor profile. Somewhat bitter cocoa dry, there is some accompanying vanilla caramel. Awesome beer.

Bottle. Pours black with a one finger tan head that left spotty lacing. Aroma of bourbon, chocolate, coffee, vanilla and has a hint of caramel. Taste was silky smooth with soft carbonation with flavors of oaky bourbon, chocolate, dark roasted coffee, vanilla and wood with a full body and has a nice warming finish. Excellent imp stout.

Bottled (thanks for sharing jarikumpul!). Dark brown to pitch black colour, small brown head. Aroma is bigtime roasted malts, liquorice, chocolate and also mild notes of coffee. Flavour is quite the same with the liquorice coming real strongly. Also Alcohol gives a nice warming touch to complete the whole.

Appearance: Pours a midnight brown with swirls of white throughout and a pin stripe of tan at the top. Aroma: Bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, licorice, and roasty notes. Taste: Hershey’s chocolate syrup, vanilla, light amounts of bourbon, and a nice woody sweet finish. Mouthfeel: Silky smooth, very moderate carbonation. Overall: A well made, balanced yet bold beer. Amazing texture and not overpowering with wood or bourbon.

Pours deep mahogany with a small beige head. Strong lactic aroma with notes of chocolate, slight coffee, and just a hint of whiskey. Flavor has strong mocha notes, and lots of lactic sugar upfront. Definite but subtle oak and whiskey along with strong molasses mid-palate and a bit of sweet caramel. Full bodied and creamy mouthfeel, with a bit of chalkiness late in the finish.

pours dark, but not quite black with very light tan beautiful head, the kind you dream of when you’re 15. nose of heavy carmel and molasses. taste is candy sugar, roasted malts and carmel. a definate sweet treat. would be phenominal with chocolate, just as the bottle suggests. my first schlafly is a good one.
