| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 3, 2009 Pours a very dark brown with a light brown head. Moderate intensity aroma of vanilla. oak, mocha and a little alcohol. Flavor-wise, the malt character is simply some base malt, sweet caramel, brown sugar and light chocolate - not really any overly aggresive roasty or charred notes. Then comes a nice nutty, woody bourbon/oak/vanilla flavor. Not too over-the-top or boozy. The body’s a bit thin for an imperial stout but ok enough to make the drinking experience enjoyable. It’s been done better, but for what it is, it’s a still nice beer.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 24, 2009 2007 750mL bottle, aged quite a long time in its original box. Straight away, at about 40 degrees, the flavors and aroma are well balanced. Chocolate, coffee, and oak/bourbon are in perfect alignment at this cold temperature and blend very nicely.
As it warms, the bourbon barrel oak becomes overwhelmingly strong, and really damages the delicate balance. Aroma is smoky oak, almost peaty. Pours a somewhat thin black with a beige head, letting reddish light through the edges. Somewhat oily for a stout, expected a bit more creamy texture. kosko20 (321), Bemidji, Minnesota, USA

Aroma of bourbon, oak, vanilla, and caramel. Taste of bourbon, vanilla, caramel, chocolate, fruits, and malt. The bourbon is fairly abundant but not overpowering on this medium bodied brew. It is tasty but a bit light in this style still nice job. rudolf (1786), Buffalo, New York, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 1, 2009 2008 bottle, compliments of Andy in St. Louis, who bought it at Wine and Cheese Place. I’ve seen the 2008 edition in several stores, but never any other vintages. Pours dark brown, not quite the near-black color of others in this style, with a small beige head. Aroma of dark fruits, oak, vanilla, chocolate, mocha, and some alcohol. Flavor of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, vanilla, brown sugar, and warming alcohol. Some roastiness, but not a lot. Oak wood, vanilla, caramel, and nuts late along with the alcohol, while the fruity notes are earlier. Medium bodied, which I expected when I saw the not-quite-opaque pour. Smooth and syrupy, and kind of powdery, as if a cocoa powder were mixed in and not quite absorbed all the way, which made for an interesting texture. Good beer. aracauna (2391), Georgia, USA
