Commercial Description:
Around the time of the Louisiana purchase, beer was shipped in barrels. if one had been lucky enough to receive a used Bourbon barrel of Imperial Stout, this is what his/her happy taste buds would have encountered: roasty, rich, malty imperial stout with a strong dose of caramel, oak, and Bourbon character. This is the perfect beer to pair with hearty, cold weather dishes, smoked meats, and virtually any dessert.

#200! 750ml. 2007 vintage. Huge thanks to bmartin08 for sending me this one! This mother of a beer poured blacker than black with a huge dark brown frothy head. Aromas are out of this world! Strong burbon, roasted malts, dark chocolate, fresh ground coffee, and nice oak hints to the nose. Flavor is very well rounded and complete throughout. Right away you get a nice coffee/roasted malt hit followed right by warming burbon. The finish is oaky and chocolatly. I loved this one so much that I drank the whole 750 my self. The flavors from the barrel really came through to turn this impy into a stellar one.

This beer is great it tastes like two of my favorite things combined into one bottle. A good dark beer and Wild Turkey. I’ve had a few imperial stouts now and this by far is the best one yet. Costs $9.97 a bottle here in Kirksville but its well worth it.

Thanks to Goliath for this one I split this 2007 bottle with some friends poured into a pint glass produced a tan head that lasted on top of a black body. Just what a stout should look like. The aromas of bourbon and malts and chocolate stood out to me. The flavors were incredible they of course followed the nose. But by now they melded to this elixir of the god’s type flavor. It went down way to easy and to fast; the mouthfeel was full and thick. This is an incredible stout and with a little more than a year on this bottle. I would say deserving of more attention than it is getting.

Dark brown/black color, similar to the Barleywine with it’s vanilla sweetness, but finished with a more stout, dark flavor.

Bottle, courtesy kevster, shared with several folks at Oldsmar Tap House. Cheers. Pitch black pour, brown highlights, creamy lacing and a thick head. Looks delicious. Bourbon notes in the nose, roasted notes, big coffee, and some chocolate. Flavor is awesome, with big, thick gooey chocolate, vanilla, roasted malts, and just tons of delicious goodness pounding the palate. Thin-bodied though, which surprised me. So easy to drink all things considered, with a smooth, dry finish. Would love to try it again.

(750 ml bottle, 2007) Pours very black with small tan head. Great bourbon, oak and roasted malts aroma. A rich, full bodied brew with long bourbon finish.

Bottle. Pours a dense, syrupy black. Yields no head, but keeps a thin lacing. This stout burns like a whisky. Very good warmer.

Near black color with a beige set of bubbles on top. Some intermittent rings and dots of lace. Sweet coffee and malt aromas mix with light bourbon vanilla, touch of mint and mild earthiness. Seems a touch thin at times, but not in a watery way, more from the acids presence. Pale malt sweetness in the front along with some caramel and toffee. Not much in the dark malt category. Bourbon seems to bounce in and out of the flavors. Mildly warming in the stomach. Some white pepper in the finish lingers on the tongue. This is one of the few in this ilk, that seems to have a lot going on along with a lot of balance. I’m never forced into a choke hold into submission with the flavors. Malt is always in the background, and sometime in the foreground, while other flavors meander about. LInger is light sweet malt with a touch of vanilla. This does seem to beg to be served with a slice of flour-less chocolate cake. The fell get richer as it sets in the glass and warms slightly. Wish I picked up more of this.
