Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA Sep 16, 2006 tap at hop in the city 06-dark brown with a light brown head. nose is of sour chocolate and some aged malt (cardboard). flavors are lactic. sour and not much presence. pretty bland body with no substance to it. not very good and run of the mill. thegreenrooster (1811), St.louis, Missouri, USA Sep 16, 2006 Pour is black with a thin tan head. Aroma is not what i was expecting. No real chocolate to speak of just a dose of malts. Flavor is much the same not real chocolate just some watery malts. Not really a chocolate porter and a pretty poor porter at that. Kevin (1917), Colorado, USA May 4, 2006 tap at the brewpub. poured black with a thin head. light chocolate nose with a bit of dust. not much chocolate flavor though, a bit of dry cocoa in the finish but that is it. robust mouthfeel and flaavors of watered coffee and metal. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA Mar 6, 2006 Ruby brown with a faint skim of beige head that settles quickly, but can be coaxed back with a little swirling. Tart yeast aroma and perked coffee. Some smoke flavor and mild roast. If there is chocolate in here, it’s hiding pretty well. Not bad, but not a stand out. sneagrams3 (1704), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Feb 16, 2006 On tap from the Tap Room. Thick, oliy and opaque looking. Ring of tan brown head. Aroma was rather stiffled due to it being a little too cold. The coffee and bittersweet chocolate notes were definitely there. The cocoa or chocolate notes was slight but enjoiable. Nice and malty and dry. sethdude (600), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Mar 12, 2005 Pours a deep red/brown, nice head. Outstanding lacing. Flavor is very chocolate- tootsie rolls come to mind. Mild coffee, cherry, and a veggie note. Tasty. kwoeltje (1313), Manchester, Missouri, USA Mar 10, 2005 Draught at the Bottleworks. Deep, deep brown with hints of ruby. Small cream-colored head. Aroma is redolent of dark chocolate. Flavor is bitter chocolate, coffee, malt. Really nice with their sticky toffee pudding. MrRain (415), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA Mar 9, 2005 Although the beer seems to have a nice head on it, it is under carbonated. The chocolate flavor lays on top of the porter instead of mixing with it, creating a distrating taste that hits the back of the tongue. There’s a distinctive metallic taste in there as well. I’ve tried two of them on seperate occasions and can not bring myself to say that this is a great beer despite my love of Schlafly beers. In fact I’m probably over rating this beer based on Schlafly’s excellent reputation in the St. Louis area. This is one of the year’s biggest disappointments as I was really looking forward to it.
