Commercial Description:
This is the traditional German lager for Springtime fasting. It is a big beer with a deep brown color and a rich, malty flavor. (Available early February.)

Hop in the City '03: Deep brown redwood, persistant creamy head. . . deep roasted cherries, caramelized raisins, alcohol, sweet flowers, pears and ripe bananas make up a very nice aroma. Sugary candied alcohol flavours with a smooth palate and more very nice Schlafly malt. Good bit of hops in the finish made this one of my more favorite beers at the fest.

This rating was from the Hop In The City event where brews from the previous year were sampled (5 oz) by the attendees from kegs. This brew poured a medium sized head of fine to large sized mostly lasting light brown colored bubbles that left behind a transparent brown colored body. The aroma was a mild malty one mixed with something else that I could not pinpoint. The mouthfeel was bubbly and slightly tingly. Its flavor was somewhat like a German Doppelbock, but it was missing some of the character. it was too mild in its flavor of malt mixed with something else that I could not quite put my finger on.

Sweet, malty, dark bready aroma, some toffee. Pleasant medium red-brown in color and a creamy, lasting, off-white head. Flavor has a nice blend of flavors, toffeeish malt, some spicy, yeasty fruitiness and moving to a lightly acidic, bitter, faintly nutty, bready finish with a dim flourish of banana. Different but enjoyable.

Very light in appearance. Much like Capitals Blonde Dopplebock. Way too bitter for a dopplebock. A decent beer, but just too much hop for the style

Very malty nose and overly filling. Good color. Lacks a clean finish.

Clear light amber-copper color with a nice foamy lasting white head, sweet fruity and flowery aroma. Sweet and malty with a strong hop presence in the finish, medium body with a sticky mouthfeel, pretty hopped up for a dopplebock, I will have to try it again after things settle down and maybe re-rate.
