hezron (600), Viroqua, Wisconsin, USA Aug 22, 2006 Aroma is strong and fairly straightforward, with what I call chewy caramel followed by a spicey, alcoholic tinge. Dark brown in color with a thick and creamy head. Flavor is sweet and chocolaty, like a soft caramel covered in milk chocolate. Creamy, full body and high carbonation. On-tap at 2006 GTMW. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Aug 15, 2006 Tap @ GTMW 2006. Translucent and caramel-honey brown in color with a well-retained, foamy and off-white cap for the head. Sincere aroma presents rubbery chestnuts, almond-accented apple butter, nutmeg & spruce spice bread, caramel toffee and light fruited figs. Flavor semi-fulfills with a more pronounced body than the brewery’s doppelbock. Almond butter hits the dry milk chocolate cocoa powder with a mild chestnut smoothness. Something’s saying "Christmas eisbock." It’s easy going, just missing any element of stand-out ability. Milk chocolate smoothness hits talc like textures with an applewood and balsa wood scratch formality. Decent bock, but you don’t automatically get a good eisbock by freezing any old doppelbock.
