Narnad (681), Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA Mar 9, 2009 On tap during the Stout and Oyster Festival 2009. Nice red-brown color with low thin head. Aroma is almost non-existent but what little is there is a light nutty malt. Flavor starts off with a low grassy hop note followed up by a light sweet caramel malt and ends with a toasted bitter malt ending. Overall there is not much to this beer and it is by far Schlaflys worst beer in my opinion. sneagrams3 (1704), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Sep 17, 2008 Tasted 9/13/08. Schlafly’s Hop in the City. Hazy with a brown hue. Thick foamy head. Malty nutty aromas. Medium bodied. Good malt character with nutty flavors and smooth body. Toasty and a touch earthy. Grassy hop finish. Sticky, cloying finish. Solid example! Dogbrick (2813), Columbus, Ohio, USA Mar 2, 2008 Sample at the brewpub. This brew is a deep amber-brown color with a medium thin and creamy beige head that lasts awhile. Thin sheet of lacing. Aroma of toasted malt and lightly spiced hops. Light, smooth body with roasted malt and nut flavors along with some hops. The finish is smooth and mild with malt and hops in equal parts, as s well as a touch of fruit in the aftertaste. Drinkable, and pretty tasty to boot. madscotsman (147), Fairview Heights, Illinois, USA Sep 23, 2007 Had a nice dark brown color with a khaki colored head. Had a sweet aroma of roasted malts. Nice balanced beer with a great light bitter finish MrRain (415), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA Mar 10, 2007 Cask at the Tap Room. An attractive brown with a large cask-driven white frothy head. It was very smooth with a pleasing mouth feel. It was extremely drinkable. kwoeltje (1313), Manchester, Missouri, USA Mar 3, 2007 (at the Tap Room) Deep mahogany brown with quickly fading tan head. Some lace. Faint aroma of sweet malt. Flavor is are roasted malt, very slightly sweet. Medium bodied. Would be a good session beer. vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Feb 23, 2007 Pours dark mahogany with an off-white head. The aroma is fairly faint, maybe it was served too cold. I did get some smooth toasted malt with some nutty hints and bitterness. Medium body with a generous amount of sharp carbonation. The taste starts with heavily toasted, almost roasted, malt, coffee-like bitterness and a hint of underlying nuttiness. The flavors are quite bold for the style, but the body is fairly light. The finish has a mix of lingering coffee bitterness and lightness from the effervescent carbonation. Well worth giving a try.
