Commercial Description:
This full-bodied traditional English-style ale is brewed with a high gravity and extra hops, which originally helped to preserve the beer on long voyages from England to India.

Bottle enjoyed with Styles: Golden hue with a small lasing head and some lace. The aroma has notes of floral and grassy hops, grapefruit esters, biscuity malts, and hint of spicy vapours. The taste has a nice bitterness and citric character. A simple one dimensional beer but work well, a bit woody on the finish as well. The mouth feel is metallic, chalky and lively. An okay beer all told with a weird finish.

12 oz’er. without a vigorous pour, this produced a substantial 1" head. first whiff was malt??? but this is an IPA. once I put my nose into it a bit more and some of the foam had subsided, it was all citrus hops with some pine notes for good measure. flavor was a well balanced mix of citrus, herbal and earthy hops with just the right amount of malt balance. IMO, Schlafly’s best effort, ( in a 12 oz. bottle ) to date.

12oz. bottle. Fruity and lightly sweet aroma, spicy, juicy and citric with some fresh, leafy herbal notes along with touches of orange, pineapple and honey. Rosy golden-amber color, lightly hazy, with a lasting, very fine head and sparse lacing. Flavor largely stems from a heavy-handed addition of seemingly well-chosen and complimentary hop varieties, generating a high level of bitterness and character, including further fresh pineapple and tangerine citrus, blended with newly hewn cedar, slight earthiness, more herbal tones and, towards the finish, an impressively sweet, very lightly toasted honeyish malt presence and fading suggestions of mandarin. Smooth and oily on the palate with a moderate level of effervescence and a notably full body. Well-balanced, flavorful and tasty, makes a nice counterpoint to the West Coast styles.

Bottle. Yarr! Schlafly delivers nicely. Pour is an orange color, while head ranges over two fingers high, dies down a bit but laces nicely. Aromas are of grapefruit and pine with some creamy caramel malt in the background. Flavor is magnificent and picks up all the elements that are present in the aroma... balancing them together. Darn good.

12 oz. bottle via trade with drmatt - Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a one and a half finger thick off white head. Nice lacing. Aroma is pine and citrus hops with a touch of toasted malt. Flavor is mainly hops with a slight astringent aftertaste. Medium body. A nice IPA. Thanks Matt.

Bottle: Orange-golden and somewhat hazy with a big ol’ foamy head. Nice visual. Also a nice inviting citric aroma. And I didn’t expect this ginormous chewy character -- piney, acidicly citric, tangy and active. Nice hoppy brew! (#3034, 7/17/2007)

Pours a very heady orange, lots of lacing. Aroma is big, yeasty and boozy (not the greatest IPA nose out there), undertones of wheaty bread and mild caramel notes. Somewhat lemony aroma. Flavor is BIG and tart, initially grainy and warm, then dry and grassy, big grain aftertaste. Alcohol note present, but not quite overpowering. An example of a style (tradtional English IPA) that becomes more and more rare without the cascades dominating as others do. Huge yet subtle.

Solid IPA. Amber with large, beautiful head. Mouthfeel leaves a bit to be desired. Easy to drink but lacking a bit of the kick when you first begin drinking it.
