Commercial Description:
This full-bodied traditional English-style ale is brewed with a high gravity and extra hops, which originally helped to preserve the beer on long voyages from England to India.

On tap at the Flying Saucer in KC. Pours a mostly clear, red-orange body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a good amount of thick lacing. Aroma is medium sweet caramels and a light, fruity pine. Flavor is thinner sweet caramels and a nice, moderate pine. Pretty sweet with a bit of floral character and a light toffee. Good amount of fruits (mostly pineapple, grapefruit, and orange) and a light resiny finish. Dry and light bodied with a long lingering aftertaste. Overall, a tasty IPA. Balanced with a good amount of sweet, piney and floral hops that dominate the flavor, but stay in moderation with the light bodied caramels.

orange gold body with a nice white head. Hoppy bitter and tasty. Nothing much to write home about, but when in St. Louis, that’s a nice way to go.

Bottled on 6-6-09. Hazy amber body with a quickly diminishing off-white head. Light floral aroma with some citrus notes. The flavors are much more pronounced than the aroma. It starts moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes light to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Tastes predominately of grapefruit juice mixed with orange juice with some alcohol pepperiness on top. Medium body, velvety texture and lively carbonation. Too sweet for an IPA, but a pleasant drinker.

Was served at the Schlafly Tap Room where I found it on 6-11-09. Served in a snifter since the bartender mentioned this was 8%+ alcohol, with a 1/2 inch head and a deep ruby red color. Aroma is a light floral hops, modest citrus, great caramel coming through, light cherry and a light woody note as well. Flavor has a slight pine bitter start with light flowery note, caramel malt and woodiness come through in the middle, apple sweetness, warm alcohol feeling, a light grapefruit note toward the ended with a modest Munich roasted malt flavor. Aroma is much more pungent than the non-cask form of this beer and flavors are much more lively with the light woody background.Overall one of the BEST cask aged beers I have ever had, as the woody notes really complement very pronounced hops presence. Great brew!

12 oz. bottle. Bottled 5/6/2009. Pours a thin white head, with some lacing, over an orangy golden (SRM 15) cloudy body, with much suspended debris.....nose is rather mild with light floral, bit of pine......taste is more crystal malt (toffee) than expected, finishing bitterness is present but short lived.......mouth feel is medium and carbonation is low. I was disappointed. The hops never showed up and the malt dominated. It completely lacked the palate cleansing effect of a well hopped IPA. Can a bottle go bad in a month?

Bottle from Acknud just arrived. Came cool enough to drink! Slightly hazy amber gold color with a multifinger off-white head (Sam Adams glass). Lots of floral and citric aroma. Medium body with mild carbonation. Flavor is light stone fruit, followed by a little citrus, followed by some malt. Finish is mostly dry, and remains fruity. Bottle dated 04/22/2008. If you’re holding, don’t worry, cause it’s holding well. It’s one of those floral beers that makes me think ESB. Hoppy ESB. I was just thinking that it’s my kind of light beer, and then I noticed the 8%! No wonder it’s my kind of light beer. And it drinks like 5%. Could be deadly in the wrong hands.

Bottle from acknud. Hazy apricot color with a nice frothy white head. Aroma s of tangerine peel, lemongrass and malts. Flavor has some qualities of lemonade mixed with a light IPA. Not sure what to make of this beer to be honestly. If you told me this was a pale ale I would say amazing...but for an IPA...hmmmm.

Hazy orange color with a creamy beige head. Aroma of sweet malts and weak citrus hops. Flavor and finish is pretty bitter with the english style hops. A little over carbonated.
