The nose offers espresso, charcoal, dark chocolate and blueberry. Medium-bodied and watery with tickling carbonation. The flavor is fairly acrid and provides a good bit of dark chocolate, but is also a touch thin. Diluted, lightly bitter finish. Probably would have been more enjoyable on nitro. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 13, 2009 Served under the title "Dry Stout" on my 6-11-09 visit. Pours a very dark black/brown color with a thick, creamy, dense, tan head. Aroma had a pronounced heavy roasted malt scent with a light coffee bitterness hiding in the rear. Flavor is a slightly bitter roasted malt presence, slightly acidic bite, coffee is light with a more roasted malt character and finishes with a slight sourness and a very nice dry bite. Density of the beer is great and the carbonation is moderate and fine. sneagrams3 (1759), St. Louis, Missouri, USA

Medium to full bodied with good cocoa malty flavors. Toasty and dry. Smooth palate and rich malt character. Tasty! Strykzone (1486), Wood River, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 29, 2008 Very dark with a short lived head. Aroma is smoky malt and earthiness. Flavor offers more hop than expected. It also features dark chocolate and some wood. This is somewhat complex in that it moves from roasted chocolate to hop tartness to dark fruit. Overall it is a very nice dry stout. drfabulous (1268), Columbia, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 29, 2008 Solid stout. Dark. Hint of coffee. One of the stouts I should depend on locally if the better ones aren’t available. Much better than Schlafly’s oatmeal stout. Saarlander (1579), Rancho Cucamonga, California, USA

Some frut as well, nothing too Stark about this one, and enjoyable, very drinkable brew! Thanks to Duane for the brew! madscotsman (147), Fairview Heights, Illinois, USA

Had some malts in the aroma and some fruity sweetness. Had a decent finish, but nothing memorable. I’ll stick with the irish extra stout.
