| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 30, 2008 33cl bottle. Pours a deep, clear copper and russet with a thin, off-white head. The aroma is strong with lager yeast at first and then waves of toffee and melanoidin-rich malts enter the picture. The flavor starts bready, toasty, and malty with a good bit of residual sweetness, some graininess and a very light touch of fruity notes - from the malt and hop character I think, not from esters. The middle of the tongue finds some fruity bitterness and some roasted malt notes - like caramel, hints of chocolate, and lots of toast. The finish has a decent kick of hop bitterness and a touch of alcohol complementing an otherwise full and sweet ending. The aftertaste is lush and rich with malt syrup and hops. The mouthfeel is creamy and full in body, but far from thick or syrupy. The suds are nice and light without the bite that is characteristic of many lagers (which are frequently highly carbonated). Overall, the flavors are a bit grainy and the dose of yeast in the aroma is reminiscent of a much lighter and less flavorful brew, but the beer ends on an up note with some nice flavor developing in the middle. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 29, 2008 12 oz bottle. Clear dark copper/brown with a slight fine white head and a bit of lacing on the glass. Sweet caramel malt aroma with a hint of spicey hops. Rich carmel and molasses flavor with just a bit of someting metallic. Some nice alchohol warming. Medium creamy mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. The rich malt sweetness fades to a little hop bitterness in the finish. Arayaga2 (994), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Taste is sweet with the aforementioned pumpernickel from mid-taste into the finish. Soft, viscous mouthfeel is very nice. shintriad (698), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 31, 2008 bottled. Dark brown w/ a bready-old smell made enjoyable by a funky fruity boozy background. For taste, see last sentence only dilute it to being almost watery. The beer’s still great thou (& fucking underrated!). I’ve really enjoyed this stellar yet pricey brewery so far.
