| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 18, 2008 Bottle an served in standard pint glass: Pours a reddish brown hue with a frothy tan head and good lace. The aroma has notes of toffee and caramel, hint of chocolate, molasses, pear, and some bready vapours (no coffee). The taste is front loaded by sweet malt and a twangy fruit character. Sadly there is also a hint of band-aid medicinal phenols which makes for a harsh finish. The mouth feel is sticky and chewy. The phenolic character on the palate really reduced my impression of this beer. Nowhere near the Christoffel Winterse Bock I had before it. Grovlam (3810), Copenhagen, Denmark

[Great two day tasting session @ Papsoe] Average off-white creamy head that mostly lasted. Fair display of lacework. Clear amber color. Aroma of heavy bread, caramelized malt, toasted malt, hint of fruit, light dusty grain. Over the palate roasted malt, hint of citrus, mixed fruit notes becomes evident. Full bodied with a soft carbonation and somewhat thick light alcoholic texture. Moderated to heavy sweet with light bitter and acidic notes. Bread and roasted malty finish Papsoe (15103), Frederiksberg, Denmark

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 10, 2008 12 oz bottle. Very dark brown with decent head. Aromas of caramel, molasses, some citrus and cane sugar. Flavors were similar with a touch of bandage and a finish that was more bitter than I am used to in a Doppelbock. Not bad, but different.
