It looks fine--deep brown clear pour with little champagne bubbles floating up to the creamy white head. It even smells decent...sweet malt and caramel with some cherries and alcohol (it IS 8.5%, after all). The taste is just, well, meh. It’s malty and nutty with slight hops bitterness, but there’s a metallic flavor on the finish. It’s a bit boring, even if it is pleasant in the mouth. At $4 a bottle, not worth it at all. clear dark amber - beautiful - small thick smooth light brown head.
strong aroma, alc noticeable, but not spritty. notes of caramel and toffee, some sweet hops, faint sweet malts.
flavor is licorice, very light roasted sweet malts, chocolate, bitter toffee, lots going on!, aftertaste lingers long and is licorice, malts, chocolate, toffee. The flavor is not roasted, but very nice and appears quite well mixed together. the licorice touch is carried out perfectly, a little english licorice hits you now and then both in the start and the end. omhper (12247), Stockholm, Sweden

Dark brown body with good carbonation and an average off-white foamy/bubbly head. Its well balanced malty/hoppy aroma carries herbal and brown sugar notes. Alcohol is well hidden. Taste has a mild texture with fruity and some subtle roasty notes. Ends with a long, warming bittersweet finish. Good Doppelbock. MiP (9157), Sønderborg, Denmark
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 13, 2009 Bottle, 8.5%. Lagery aroma, pepper, hint of sweet malt. Clear dark brown colour. Big stable light brown head. The flavour is quite malty and quite sweet. There is some burning alcohol feel and bitter alcohol flavour. Tastes stronger than it is. The finish is actually quite rough. The flavor was a bit malty, but seemed to have a disjointed alcohol bite. There was a burnt flavor to the beer AtlAggie (138), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 8, 2009 Color is a dark amber brown, with a pretty, thick tan head. Nose is malt, dark fruit, sweet caramel, and flavor is much along the same lines. Solid beer, alcohol pretty well hidden. Nothing terribly outside the guidelines of the style, but enjoyable and very drinkable. yemenmocha (421), Glendale, Arizona, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Apr 22, 2009 Pours very dark amber, perhaps brown, almost like a cola. Nose and palate are reminiscent of cola also - the caramel sweetness at least, but brought in with a few other flavors. Head dissipates quickly, and it’s just not terribly aromatic. Easy drinking, but just not an amazing doppel.
