| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 21, 2008 Red pour with a very thin tan head. Aroma is of alcohol, sweet malt a touch of smokiness and none of the advertised coffee. Medium bodied and the active carbonation works well with the upfront boozy warming. I tasted a lot of dark fruit and sweet/woodsey malts. Hops are there only to bitter. This is a solid bock with a nice, crisp finish. mullet2007 (206), St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Dec 20, 2008 Pours a thick dark red to dark brown colour with a thin creamy very white head. Nose is slightly smoky, with a bit of meatiness (like smoky beef jerky almost) and milk chocolate, and very faint coffee notes there too. Flavour is lots of malts. Dark malts, some caramel, and possibly a hint of coffee. There is a tiny bit of hop flavour, just enough to make the finish taste and feel all mushy. There is a bit of a metallic thing going on, tastes not like a tin can, but more like really hard water. The alcohol is hidden pretty well. In the mouth it does feel almost mushy. There is something wrong with the carbonation, it is present, and sharp, but does not seem to last long enough or something. It is a little bit watery, but still thick enough to feel strange. Mouthfeel is not quite pleasant, but otherwise it is not bad. SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 19, 2008 Clear dark brown pour with a foamy head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of sweet roasted malt, coffee, cocoa and hops. Flavor is similar, with the roastiness coming through above everything else, and a nice hoppy finish. A little thin, but overall a unique, decent brew. matt7215 (972), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 15, 2008 330 ml bottle from the LCBO. pours clear brown with a small white head that quickly reduces to some tiny surface bubbles. aromas are minimal. amber caramel malt and some hops with a touch of alcohol. the flavour is slightly sweet with caramel malts and a slightly bitter hops finish. there is some alcohol agressiveness in the flavour but it doesnt drastically affect the drinkability. id say 6 months to a year in the cellar would smooth some of the rough edges. an enjoyable night cap that shows signs of improvement with time. robinvboyer (1429), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Dec 13, 2008 grainy and boozy, with an odd metallic flavor. Quite malty, and almost cloyingly sweet. Not sure im a big fan of this. This brewery often underwhelms me. Not a bad doppel, but the metallic flavor is annoying me.
