Aroma of sweet roasted malt, coffee, cocoa and hops. Flavor is similar, with the roastiness coming through above everything else, and a nice hoppy finish. A little thin, but overall a unique, decent brew. matt7215 (1000), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 15, 2008 330 ml bottle from the LCBO. pours clear brown with a small white head that quickly reduces to some tiny surface bubbles. aromas are minimal. amber caramel malt and some hops with a touch of alcohol. the flavour is slightly sweet with caramel malts and a slightly bitter hops finish. there is some alcohol agressiveness in the flavour but it doesnt drastically affect the drinkability. id say 6 months to a year in the cellar would smooth some of the rough edges. an enjoyable night cap that shows signs of improvement with time. robinvboyer (1444), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Dec 13, 2008 grainy and boozy, with an odd metallic flavor. Quite malty, and almost cloyingly sweet. Not sure im a big fan of this. This brewery often underwhelms me. Not a bad doppel, but the metallic flavor is annoying me. DerWeg (782), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Very punchy almost aggressive flavors at first... slightly alco, grainy and bitter hop bite. a proud beautiful Doppel! It does not even TRY to be that smooth or oily, and I like that. Might age well for short term, to mellow the flavors. A good Doppelbock for those who like them not too sweet and simple. pootzboy (1048), Hawgville, Ontario, Canada

Deep chestnuit brown with ruby highlights. decent sticky off ehite cap that laces the glass.Soft carbonation.
Aroma is ambrosia, Deep wafts of sweet toasty Munich malt, burnt treacle, some coffee, musty woody noble hop signature.
Rigid malt spine, coffee-toffee-toast character, rich mouth feel. Alcohol totally hidden by the hearty flavor profile
Front side douses the palate in rich toasty sweet malts, mid palate you get some chicory, cocoa, almond paste and figs. Finishes clean and slightly bitter with a wee bit of drying. Leaves a rich bundt cake aftertaste and mild warming.
First rate dunkler dopplebock. wilderthanyou (423), Guelph, Ontario, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 6, 2008 Pours a coca cola brown with a thin off white head. The aroma is strage, very tinny, and metallic. The very first flavour that touchs the tongue is tinny, but that quickly is replaced with some tasty malty goodness, toffee is a strong base for some nice hoppy rounding. The flavours are not very complex but still tasty, I feel like if there were less carbonation the beer might have a fuller flavour. Aftertaste is a little metallic with a touch of hops. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 6, 2008 Classy looking 330mL bottle from the LCBO. Pours out a coke colour with a fizzy head that dissipates fast with large foamy bubbles. Aroma is weird, very malty and rich, with some tin, hops, molasses and what seems sort of like olives? Weird, but not unpleasant, somewhat complex with fruity notes like banana. Some booze on the nose as well. Flavour is quite nice, bland and complex at the same time? Rich toffee malts backed up by some nice Noble hops, very distinctive, rounded out with a reminder of the ABV. The aftertaste is very dry and bitter sweet. A pretty solid Dopplebock all around, the only major fault being the alcohol presence. I wish the LCBO would bring in more Dopplebocks. larsniclas (3391), Gothenburg, Sweden
