Amber brown, thin beige head, light lacing. Aroma is malty, chocolate and caramel, brown sugar, molasses. Flavour is malty and sweet, caramel, light chocolate and a splash of alcohol. Sweet mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes long, sweet, warming.

Not bad but seems a bit on the light side at times. Alcohol is fairly well hidden.

330ml bottle from the LCBO in Peterborough, Ontario.
Opened on January 10, 2009.
Best before February 2010.

Poured to a fluted fest glass at Brixie’s Holiday Beer Tasting in Brookfield,IL. The color was clear, deep amber or that of whiskey. The head was nice white foam followed by clingy, white ribbons of lacing. The aroma had a Munich malt scent, and some light toastiness. The flavor was rich malt, hints of caramel and sweetness, and mellow hop bitterness. A very smooth, representative Doppel.

330cL bottle Venice, Italy. Amber body, creamy offwhite head. Aroma rich with burnt toffee, milk chocolate, cafe au lait and dried fruit undertones. Thick texture, balanced well with bitterness, moderate carbonation. Plenty of toffee and biscuity malt on the body. Hints of roasted malt and raisins. Finishes reasonably bitter, lingering dried fruit. Very nice, maybe didn’t enjoy it as much as the Urbock though.
