Aroma of malt, hops and hints of whisky, not the smoke ones. Malty flavour with a lot of sweetness, someway dull and not what I expected of a whisky malt red beer. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 23, 2006 Bottle. Smoke burnt wood for aroma. Gold body color with white head. Flavor had a sweet caramel flavor. It also has a burnt wood flavor that was an intriging taste to say the least. Something different for a change good brew. johndoughty (2156), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 14, 2006 Dont know how this is clssed as a smoked as i couldn’t detect any smokiness at all.I would describe it more as a Bock. Clear golden apprearance with a strong but not overpowering alcohol presence. Some sweetness but overall an intersting and well balanced
strong beer. jaymobrown (1355), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Apr 12, 2006 Orange haze. Large head with a slightly bitter nose. Not much of a taste. I didn’t notice any smoke flavors in here. I wouldn’t have even guessed that this was the style. Sort of a cereal sugar sweet taste. EithCubes (2146), Indiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 16, 2006 Bottled. Copper color, short little head and plenty of carbonation. Alcoholic malty aroma, very strongly reminds me of a bock. The smoking is subtle, more to be felt in the pleasant aftertaste, though there’s a pinch to be had at the end of the main course, as well. The sweet, fruity malt dominates here. The taste of tangy alcohol is hidden well, and though the brew is noticeably thicker because of it, the alcohol didn’t smack me around. Warming. Doesn’t have anything to do with whisky, in my opinion, not even a note of peat, and I’m on record as saying this is poorly categorized as a Smoked. Still, a pleasant Bock that manages to avoid most of the flaws of that style. oldrtybastrd (1801), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 15, 2006 Pours a crisp bright golden yellow color. Aromas of peat, moss, and vegetables. Flavor is metallic vegetable tasting. Watery, sweet finish that was gone in a second. Holdwine (908), Beertimore, Maryland, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 15, 2006 Barely interesting malty beer. Strong enough to let warm. Lovely reddish hue to look at. Average fun beer to drink. Vanilla notes, some smokiness. Glad I had it, now I don’t need to try it again. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Mar 14, 2006 Grainy cereal malts with perhaps a suggestion of peat (or is that the power of suggestion). Lightly hazy deep golden tan coloured body is topped by a low off white head that lingers briefly then recedes to ring. Somewhat doughy and with plenty of tannins and some notes of sweet tangerines as well as grain, peat, nutty marzipan sweetness in a malt oriented flavour that is fairly sweet and cut only by the light tang of alcohol. Certainly more of a sweet red ale with a hint of smoke rather than a smoked beer. Medium body with fairly low carbonation is somewhat sticky in texture. The whole is definitely better than the sum of it’s parts, yet there is still something not all there with this one. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle (Main Street Party Store, MI, Jul-05).
