Commercial Description:
Samichlaus is brewed once a year on December 6, and is aged for 10 months before bottling. It is one of the rarest specialties in the world. Samichlaus may be aged in the bottle for many years to come, as older vintages become more complex. Brilliant deep amber, complex dry toasted malt nose and huge intensely sweet palate. The 2007 bottling is the first bottling since 1986.

Very stron sweet fruit. Figs. Vinous, strong alcohol warming. Well hopped, not quite as sweet as expected.

(Bottled) Hazy golden with almost no head. Aroma of strong, sweet-honeyish, pale malt - and alcohol. Very sweet, grainy-pale-malty flavor with moderate hoppiness. Medium to full body, very sweet-sugary, low carbonation. What on earth have they been thinking? An ultra-sweet malt liquour with nothing in common with the real Samichlaus... except the name.

Crushed with Jakebra. If scotch were added to the lightest barley wine ever, this would be the result. Dude at John’s told me to stay away. I’ma tell him he was wrong. Pretty euphoric brew.

Holds an amber pour with very small head. Aroma is malty with some woody notes and a bit of sweet caramel, as well as a touch of alcohol. Flavor is quite nice- sweet resinous qualities, along with the malt, and a definite alcohol presence near the finish. Smooth palate, quite drinkable given the ABV. Good brew.

A doppelbock? really? Not so sure. Tried a sample of this bad boy the other day at Tyler’s Bottle shop. It was hot...that’s for sure. Mostly what i picked up was alcohol, a bittle of an apple cider like character, and some big sweet malts. Haven’t had the regular sami in years but I’m sure glad I never paid for this one either. A sip is all I needed.

on bottle and tap within the same week. More carbonated on tap, not to detriment of beer - on bottle killed head. On bottle the bottle may have sat a while, but not to detriment of beer. Picked up at Pipe and Pint in Greensboro. Very clear with meadlike sweetness and alcohol to nose. Thick mouthfeel, malty toward slight syrup. Alcohol is pleasant and diversity of malt flavors impressive. Smooth, drinkable whiskey type finish. I could easily drink myself to death with this drinkability to alcohol ratio and never notice it.
