Commercial Description:
Samichlaus is brewed once a year on December 6, and is aged for 10 months before bottling. It is one of the rarest specialties in the world. Samichlaus may be aged in the bottle for many years to come, as older vintages become more complex. Brilliant deep amber, complex dry toasted malt nose and huge intensely sweet palate. The 2007 bottling is the first bottling since 1986.

Pours red with diminishing ring head. Fruit (passion fruit) aroma. Sweet. Perhaps too sweet for now, but maybe next year....

pours a golden orange with no head. Smells like alchohol and sweet malt. Sweet caramel flavor, no bitterness. not as flavorful as the black label sami, but still very good.

Tallahassee, Fl. - Liquor Loft - 11.2 oz bottle. Dark golden pour, glistening, think gasoline; wispy white head clinging for life in the alcohol. Some maple syrup in the aroma with hints of alcohol, some molasses; not as aromatic as the flavor would lead one to believe. Flavor has hints of molasses, cotton candy, cognac. Strong and bold, yet smooth and satisfying. Hint of licorice in the finish. Good sipping material for the winter. Thick, creamy mouthfeel - sticks to your ribs. Rather enjoyed this one.

The aroma was malty with a strong presence of alcohol and a lightly spicy hop presence. The aroma contained a light sweetness and a fruitiness of light raisins and perhaps currants which were trounced by the level of alcohol. The beer poured into the glass clear golden with a head which left in an instant. The flavor was malty with alcohol and a strong nutty impression. The sweetness was tempered by alcohol and a lightly spicy hop flavor and a bit of peppery phenolic. The caramel was notable, but was not overly sweet. Alcohol was strong in the flavor. The finish was dry with lasting alcohol and light raisins into the aftertaste. The body was medium-full, oh heck, it was full with no real carbonation. The alcohol was HUGE throughout and left a strong warming impression into the aftertaste. This one is not a pleasure to consume and is mostly comprised of alcohol. 11.2 ounce bottle, bottled in 2007.

33 cl bottle. Clear golden colour with a weak head. Sweet aroma of malt, hints of fruit and alcohol. Very sweet and alcoholic flavour, notes of dried fruit, malt and sirup. Ends up with a warming touch from the alcohol.

(bottle) Pours clear gold with a white head. Really sweet, fruity aroma, with brown sugar also. Taste was very sweet, but I enjoyed it. There were flavors of molasses, sweet fruit, and caramel. There is some booze present in both the smell and taste, but I didn’t find it too distracting. I liked this one a little better than the regular Samichlaus.

Bottle poured a clear gold with a minimal lingering ring of white foam. Aromas of fruitiness, alcohol, light straw and pepper. Palate was medium bodied smooth warming and lightly syrupy. Flavors of pear, pineapplew, pepper and a hint of spice with a smooth warming lingering sweet finish.
A very hot sweet beer, I don’t recommend it.

This stuff has got to be filtered. It is absolutely crystal clear!! Poured slight head which pretty much died immediately upon hitting the glass, leaving a little ring foam along the sides. Color of dark straw. Thick mouthfeel, very heavy with malt, as expected for something that heavy in alcohol. Warming sensation comes up in the back of the throat almost immediately upon taking a sip. Tones of rubbing alcohol in the aftertaste. This is most definately a sipping beer, but I’m not really sure I’d want to sip it on a regular basis, especially at $7/btl at Ledger’s in Berkeley, CA.. I suppose I’ll got back and see if they have any more and lay a couple down for trying in a couple of years. Lord knows if its going to be another 19 years before they bottle it again!!!!
