Ungstrup (11385), Frederiksberg, Denmark Dec 13, 2007 Bottled. An amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is very powerful with notes of alcohol, fruits, and caramel - somewhat like a dessert wine. The flavor is very sweet with strong notes of alcohol and fruit both fresh and some over ripe making it a bit heavy, leading to a somewhat alcoholic finish. The alcohol leaves a burn on the tongue. Papsoe (10517), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 26, 2007 (Bottle 33 cl) Courtesy of yespr. Clear, deep golden with a small, off-white head. Sweetish alcoholic aroma with an edge of almonds. Very solid body with sweet, malty accents - a little low in carbonation. Again these almond notes. The finish is extremely alcoholic but this still manages to come out as a very pleasant beer. 201107 Oakes (6979), Miami Beach, Florida, USA May 5, 2008 Golden body, not much head, nor would I expect there to be on a beer this strong. Rich pale malt nose, light fruitiness (lemon, pear, apricot). Smooth, soft with lush pale malts, firm alcohol, peachy/apricotty esters. Finishes nice and sticky, lick your lips style, like when you eat barbeque. Truly lovely, balanced and fresh. Eggenberg is 4/4 in doppelbocks, which I believe makes them the world champs. yespr (6943), Copenhagen O, Denmark Nov 21, 2007 33 cL bottle. Pours paler yellow than the non-helles and with a fully diminished head. Marzipan/almond aroma. Flavour holds a rather sweet and smooth feel. Finish is sweet flavoured and with a decent alcohol warming. Somewhat simple and too young but also fresher than the regular Samichlaus. Has to be drunk rather fresh from the fridge as it gets terrible alcoholic once warmed up. joergen (6529), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 21, 2007 Bottle.
Clear amber coloured with a small white ehad.
Sweet aroma of caramel, alcohol and almonds.
Sweet flavour of malts, carame, alcohol and dried fruits.
Much too alcoholic. I prefer the normal version.
