Commercial Description:
The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

2008 on tap @ Hopleaf. Pours out a brownish red color with no head to speak of. Smell is fuity, caramel, some notes of alcohol. Taste is sweet and like caramel. Pretty much way too sweet, syrupy and malty. Some honey in the finish and lots of alcohol. Full-bodied.

Bottle 2007 poured a clear tarnished copper with a lingering ring of amber foam. Aromas of prunes, carmel, toffee and pepper. Palate was medium to full bodied and syrupy with a warming finish. Flavors of plum, apple, toffee, carmel, brown sugar and light spice with a smooth syrupyt warming lingering sweet finish.

On tap at OTH. Man, if you take this beer lightly it will kick you when you are down. It is lots of sugar, syrup and alcohol. Flavor is similar with a lack of balance leaning towards refined sugar. Did not like it, especially as a doppelbock.

extremely sweet and lacking any balance at all. was a bit difficult to drink at first. warming helped. no complexity and even a bit thin. Something was just off for me.

Flaske: Årgang 2005. Flot dybrød øl med meget lille skumhoved. Kraftig duft af æble og alkohol. Alkoholen bider kraftigt i smagen, men er velafbalanceret af en vældig sødme. Udmærket øl.

2007 bottle. Pours a clear amber with an initial 2 finger head that faded into a small topper. Nose is dried fruits, caramel and alcohol. Taste is extremely sweet. Brown sugar, dates, raisins, and a slight bitter boozy finish. Medium mouth feel. This one should age a few years and mellow out.
