Bottle (2002 Vintage @ the Wellington) - Thanks to Miko for finally getting me back on the beer front. Can’t believe this is considered a dopplebock - it’s much more like a balreywine. Pours a dark reddish, amber with very little head. Aroma is huge maltiness, caramel, sweetness, alcohol. Taste is very similar, huge sweet maltiness very much like a barleywine with little hints of spices and dark over-ripened fruits here and there with a slight (but enjoyable) alcoholic finish. Probably could use even more time, but very nice for around $8 and just from tasting it you will be very pleasantly surprised to find that it is 14%! Bigmmartin (371), Dayton, Ohio, USA

The alcohol taste was a little on the strong side but wouldn’t have guessed it was that high. I thought this was extremely sweet and malty. Not my favorite dopplebock, but a strong and enjoyable brew. italianjohn (361), Bensalem, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of funkiness and sweet malitniness. Flavor of sherry, alcoholic nose but well hidden. Goes down smooth. This is a good beer. No wonder this beer turned bullzeye on to good beer. det2nj (31), Newark, New Jersey, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 11, 2008 I’ll echo a lot of recent statements. This struck me as very malty and sweet. Mine was bottled in ’06 and it certainly didn’t burn going down, but the whiskey-like heaviness and perfume-like aroma was memorable. It was certainly flavorful enough to mask most of the high alcohol quantity. Pretty cool experience-- had no problem with paying nine bucks to get it at a bar. phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jun 11, 2008 This beer kicked my ass! A very sweet alcohol taste with very rich flavors all the way through. Aroma was strong like perfume and oak. A little too much for me, a little unbalanced as far as im concerned, plenty of overly malted flavor. unique to say the least. docswife (27), Morganfield, Kentucky, USA

Very strong aroma of malt and alcohol.. First drink was like a shot of whiskey! Burns on the way down. Raisins, plums and alcohol. Not one I would want to drink again.
