Aromas of plums, raisins, nuts, brown sugar, pumpernickel bread, rose, and cherries. Flavors of cognac/port, brown sugar and maple syrup. At the front of the palate, there is a huge kick of port wine that is harsh and way too sweet. Like someone dumped a bottle of port into the kettle and then threw the empty bottle at your mouth. Body is not too sticky and seems cut by the alcohol. Alcohol is well hidden by the sweetness in the palate. Carbonation is almost non-existent. Having already had two years to age, I would be curious to taste an older bottle. The aroma is wonderfully complex but the taste is way too sweet and unattenuated. odgaard (263), Skyum, Thisted, Denmark

Aroma: wow... dark fruit - plum and raisin, bread, malt, alcohol, spicy. Taste: sweet, spicy, bread, plum and raisin, and a warming alc. Really tasty, really complex, really good. One of my favourite beers. judasbeer (255), Budapest, Hungary
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 13, 2009 2008 vintage. Deep copper, tawny port color with diminishing head. Sweet, dried fruity aroma with distinct cognac character.
A lot more intense and sweet in the flavor . Syrupy molasses with alcoholic figs and tawny-port or cognac complexity.
Perfectly ageable brew. coldmeat23 (233), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA

Beautiful clear amber liquid sits underneath a light one-finger head of foam that dissipates quickly to leave a slight ring of tiny bubbles around the edge of the glass. Minimal lacing.
Honeyed pears with just a touch of dark sweetness. Molasses? Apples and light brandy notes. A hint of alcohol.
Sweet caramel malts and dark melting sugars. Pears, apples and peaches. Slight spiciness. Light roasted nuttiness. Warming effect not unlike rum or brandy.
Feels slightly thick. Like a watered down syrup. This is totally a good thing.
Easily drinkable, even though the 14% abv will surely kick your ass in a hurry.
It’s so worth trying to track this one down.

Aroma: Malty sweet aroma. Lots of alcohol.
Appearance: Light Brown in color, slight haze with a light head.
Flavor: Big roasty sweet malt flavor with tons of alcohol this was a big malt bomb.
Palate: Dry with a smooth nutty finish.
Overall: A very tasty brew with tons of alcohol. One of the best old beers I have had in a long time.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 29, 2009 This was a 2007 bottle. Other than the aroma, it was very nice. VERY strong. It does have a oily flavor, but actually that allows a smother taste. Malty/Caramel flavor, not an alcholic flavor in my opinion. Enjoyable. Expensive but enjoyable. Flavor and smell improves as sits in glass. EHSRanders (1120), Randers C, Denmark
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 16, 2009 Bottle. Clear amber/brown colour with medium creamy white mostly diminishing head. Malty aroma with notes of dark fruits and alcohol. Sweet spicy flavor. Warm alcohol finish. Oily palate. DeanF (309), Paris, France
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 2, 2009 Pours into a chalice with a lean head that soon dissipates to nothing, but has an appealing amber colour to it, almost burgundy really. Nose is all syrup and alcohol, some fruits, or at least some fruity notes. I have to say, though, for a beer of this strength and punch it’s quite tasty - lots of fruits and malts, not as syrupy to drink, but very very sweet. Too sweet for me, and very hard to finish this bottle. It was like drinking 330ml of ice wine - way too sweet, way too much.
