Commercial Description:
The once strongest beer in the world is back ! Brewed only once a year on December 6. Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.

Pours amberish with minimal head. Fruity/ caramel flavors. A very rich beer for a dopplebock. Malty finish with hints of alcohol. Bought this at whole foods on wade ave in raleigh

very tenuous head; translucent brown/red; lots of carbonation; thick, syrupy, medium-bodied; a mix of sweet, sour, and heat (though the alcohol isn’t overpowering); malt, caramel, toast, fruit in the flavor; an overall unique taste

Pours with minimal white head that disappeared quickly. Nice, fruity aroma. Medium carbonation. Dark orange color. Initially creamy on the palate, then finishes with strong alcohol kick, almost acidic.

Pours with no head, deep brown color, yet not too dark. No lacing at all. Appears to have a lot of carbonation. Heavy alcohol aroma, also soy sauce, roasty scent. Very complex, and I’m sure I’m missing a lot of it. Wow, very sweet and caramel. You do get some alcohol warming, yet it is not overpowering at all. More noticeable after. Very sweet with some sour notes. An amazing beer, I will most certainly try and get this again and share it with others. Think and syrupy, like drinking maple almost, it’s great.

330ml 2006 bottle - pours clear brownish red with pretty much no head at all, just some small bubbles on top. Aroma is bready with caramel and booze. It kind of made me nervous. The flavour gave me reason to be nervous. Dear lord, this is a boozy thing! I kind of couldn’t get past it. The alcohol overwhelmed many of the other flavours (sweet caramel, lots of malt, some dark fruit, brown sugar). Very port-like but cloying and not very pleasant. Mouthfeel was very thick and creamy. Syrupy. The bottle I had was from 2006, making it only around 5 months old, so maybe it was simply too young. Regardless, this was not for me.

2006 Bottle: Pours a golden yellow with a big fluffy white head. Aroma of weet fruits and alcohol. Flavor is sweet malts and apricot and tangerine fruity esters with a lot of alcohol warming. Body is fairly light considering alcohol. Probably would make a good afterdinner drink but cant see drinking this often.

12oz bottle poured in a Sam Adams special glass. Whew! Not for the faint of heart. The fruit and sweet cloyingness were saved, somewhat, by the alcohol. I won’t be rushing out for this again. It was unique except for that typical "gotta hide the fuel" taste.

The aroma was malty and nutty with a strong caramel presence and a toasty note. The aroma contained raisins and prunes and deep malt notes of sherry with a very lightly spicy hop note still remaining deep in the background. The beer poured into the glass crystal clear deep amber with a fleeting white head which was gone before one could note it’s presence. The head did remain long enough to leave tracing at the edges of the surface. The flavor was malty, deeply so, with raisins and prunes (light on the prunes) with dark caramel and a slight bit of chocolate. The flavor was nutty, toasty and bready, oh heck, it was complex as heck. The flavor contained alcohol and a bit of spicy hops for good measure. The finish was heading toward dry, but not quite there yet with lasting malt characteristics long and strong into the aftertaste. The body was full and almost viscous with a rather low carbonation level. The warming of alcohol after consumption lets one know in an instant that this is a force to be reckoned with. A great brew with lasting impressions of malt, if it is this good at 4 years, I cannot wait until 10! 12 ounce bottle. 2003 vintage.
