33cL bottle, Venice, Italy. Lovely aroma of rich vanilla, golden syrup, hay and biscuit. Deep blond body, thick white head. Big rich body, huge length, nice carbonation. Much of the nose on the body, rich yet well balanced and flavourful. Bloody nice!

Aroma of brandied apples and caramel. Appearance is much lighter than it’s German counterparts, almost a reddish brown and rather transparent, creamy well carbonated body and head. Flavor is hard to pinpoint... certainly has some liquor qualities, perhaps brandy or even bourbon, with some sour apple and caramel flavor. Palate was bubbly. Perhaps too misunderstood to reap a fair rating. I would like to see this one age.

0,33 l bottle from Julius Meinl gourmet shop in Vienna. Pours a slightly coppery, pale golden color with diminshing head. Aroma of cooked corn with different kinds of candies. Poor flavor of distinct cooked corn feel with sugary malts, some berries and faint diesel oil in the aftertaste. It warms me up, but leaves an ugly corny feel in the back of my tounge. Body of a typical watery lagerbeer with avarage carbonation, and harsh alcohol. It has nothin to do with cognac and noble hops. Totally disappointment for me at this moment - who knows, maybe i’d had to wait until the end of the expiration in 2011??? To tell in two words it’s simply unbalanced and one-dimensional. Or maybe i’ve some trouble with my palate????

Pours copper with a white head. Smells of sweet malt, earthy, dark fruit. Tastes sweet and sugary with some dark fruity hints and a rosey finish.

Golden brown color with white head and decent lacing. Aroma of caramel and malt with similar flavors of both. Fairly well balanced. Shows its strength, sit close to the floor.

beautiful beautiful rich amber colour, and i mean amber the stone, not "amber ale" amber, or traffic light amber. on the surface of things a parkbench brew, but surprisingly and thankfully closer to JW lees barley wine than het kanon. malt and hops take backseat and this is actually a lager where the esters are the main attraction. it’s well made enough to get the alcohol out of the way. long raisiny finish, with tobacco. i hate smoking worse than anything except nailrot ads in pharmacy windows, but tobacco in a beer is a classy flavour. massive sweetness, but a long, luxuriant sweetness that dries out in the finish with just a bit of acidity, like a nice dessert wine. maybe i’m getting old, i just panned a chinook imperial stout and i like this.

Bottled. A filmy layer om foam covering a clear, deep gold colored body. Prominent, pure sweet malt aroma. Some fruitiness, toffee notes, and a hint of alcohol. Taste is rich malty, not as sweet as the aroma indicate. Notes of tinned fruits. Mildly hopped, yet noticable. Warming alcohol all the way. Thick, chewy texture. Full body. A straightforward and reliable Doppelbock.
