Clear blond coloured beer with almost no head and only few carbonation. Sweet fruity aroma. Bit hoppy. Full palate. Finish is a bit bitter mixed with some sweetness.

Clear golden color, bubbly off-white head. Sweet, grainy, malty and alcohol scent. A bit lactic also. Sweet, malty, metallic but mostly dominating alcohol taste. Also lactic and some smoke, phenoles. Smooth mouthfeel, low bitterness.

Bottle. Best before 2004. Pours a clear golden color with a small white head. Sweet malty spicy yeasty fruity aroma. Sweet warming malty spicy flavor with hints of dark fruit. Has a sweet malty spicy finish.

Bottled 33cl. It pours a deep golden beer. The nose is of wax, honey, grapefruit and apricot. Full bodied. Superb mouthfeel. Hints of honey, grapefruit, wax and apricot in the taste. Milky with some coconuts showing up. Perfectly balanced. Unpleasant dry finish with a hint of onion.

33cl bottle from Total Wine (Tampa, FL). Pours a hazy golden amber color with a white, creamy one-finger white head that diminishes rapidly. Aroma is sweet malt, honey, caramel, spice. Strong phenol notes present. Flavor is bready, wheaty and doughy with notes of sweet malt, fresh hay and caramel. Medium-bodied with a slight syrupy texture. Slight sourness on finish.

Pours a beautiful medium golden in the tulip glass. Tight head with an intense malty sweet nose. A hefty caramel body with mellowed hop touches at end of mouthfeel. Big and balanced but you certainly know this is no wee brew. alcohol is not predominant but it is staring at you with arms crossed. dont drink this one as the first f the day or your day may be ruined.

THOUGHTS: Reminded me a little of Samichlaus Helles. It didn’t look much like a doppelbock or taste much like one. A nice beer though. And at least it smelled like a doppel and as time went by it even started to taste like one. Hid alcohol fairly well. It was like a doppelbock light. Nice, but I’d take a more traditional doppel over this any day. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a medium yellow with a small, white head that mostly diminished and left virtually no lacing. The aroma was moderate to heavy molasses, a little alcohol, some fruitiness and maybe some cookie. The initial flavor was moderately sweet; while the finish was heavily sweet, light to moderately bitter and a little sour with an average to long duration. There was caramel malt, then a little tiny bit of hops, but it’s mostly just a malty bomb of flavor with a little alcohol flavor, but not too bad for the ABV (plus the alcohol is common in the style). Also a little grain flavor. The light to medium body was a little syrupy with lightly fizzy carbonation and a light to moderate alcoholic finish.

Thanks to ghawener. Drank it during the Eurocup final 2008. If I can remember correctly, I was really impressed with this one. Really nicely balanced, hoppy.
