331ml bottle from LCBO- Decants sparkling gold/with lime green accents and pours a fizzy white head. The nose is heavy on the grains, and is accompanied by lemon peel, some licorice, and some dank, wet hay. This beer shows flavours of sweet grain, lemon zest, vanilla pudding, sweet, zesty malts, with good spice. FInishes a bit too sweet for my taste (reminds me of pineau de charentes), with a pineapple fruit zing. It’s good, but only in small doses.

On tap at The Saloon on U Street in Washington D.C. Served very very cold in a small glass (maybe 7oz). The Saloon offers this beer on draft but only allows one per customer. Interesting. Transparent orange, amber color with a sticky, foamy white head. Smells of heavy sugar and malt with a distinct alcohol aroma. Flavor is very similar with tons of malt, sugar and alcohol right at the forefront. Flavor is dominated by sticky fruits, vanilla and oak. Finish has plenty of heat from the alcohol and a residual sweetness. This beer is definitely a one trick pony with all the malt and sweetness. It also won’t please the doppelbock fans because it doesn’t look or tasted like a traditional doppel.

Reminds me of Dogfish’s Midas Touch a little. Pours a honey yellow with no head. The aroma is sweet, caramel, honey, muscat, and alcohol. The flavour is, like the aroma, sweet, with honey being the first and strongest throughout the beer, some caramel and muscat wine like notes in the middle, and more caramel in the finish. A sticky, syrupy mouthfeel, with good carbonation. A decent brew, a little sweet for my taste, but good.

pour a deep golden color. Doppelbock eh? pretty light colored..........not what i was expecting. Aroma is sweet malt, caramel, and i’m getting a touch of sweet apples. Flavour is BOOZE. wow. Some sweet malt comes through after the booze punch. Wow, this is interesting. After you get anihilated by the booze, the flavour developes, and you get some sweet malt, a touch of hops, and a little bit of fruit, like apple, and plum. NOt a bad beer, but i wouldn’t say this is a dopelbock.......maybe more a euro strong lager?

331ml bottle from the LCBO. Pours a semi-deep golden colour (a lot lighter than I was expecting), with almost no head. It looks pretty nice in my snifter. Aroma: Chewy malts, almost like a barley wine, backed up by alcohol, maybe some corn, not really much hop activity going on here. Taste: Bracing myself.......WHAM! I’ve just been punched in the face by ALCOHOL! Tastes are basically the same as the aroma, so I won’t be redundant in naming them again. I’m really not sure I can drink this.........generally liquids that can actually punch me IN THE FACE aren’t really my thing.........seems decent enough, but like, my poor throat can only be burned so many times in one evening. The alcoholic flavour is a bit much...... F***, lay off man, I just want to drink you.......it just refuses to lay down and be a good session brew! Way too dry and boozy, God who the hell could actually enjoy this.

A tasting at Three Cellars Milwuakee. So-So nothing special here. Sweet and bitter. On the strong side.

Strong one. Amber color with a small head, fruity aroma. The flavour is spicey and sweet with raisins, syrupy and fenolic with a moderated hopy taste. It warms you up with the full-bodied character. Nice beer and it was made under the german purity law...
