| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 26, 2009 beautiful beautiful rich amber colour, and i mean amber the stone, not "amber ale" amber, or traffic light amber. on the surface of things a parkbench brew, but surprisingly and thankfully closer to JW lees barley wine than het kanon. malt and hops take backseat and this is actually a lager where the esters are the main attraction. it’s well made enough to get the alcohol out of the way. long raisiny finish, with tobacco. i hate smoking worse than anything except nailrot ads in pharmacy windows, but tobacco in a beer is a classy flavour. massive sweetness, but a long, luxuriant sweetness that dries out in the finish with just a bit of acidity, like a nice dessert wine. maybe i’m getting old, i just panned a chinook imperial stout and i like this. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 15, 2009 Bottled. A filmy layer om foam covering a clear, deep gold colored body. Prominent, pure sweet malt aroma. Some fruitiness, toffee notes, and a hint of alcohol. Taste is rich malty, not as sweet as the aroma indicate. Notes of tinned fruits. Mildly hopped, yet noticable.
Warming alcohol all the way. Thick, chewy texture. Full body. A straightforward and reliable Doppelbock. mcdav2154 (297), Germany
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 8, 2009 Pours a clear amber with a white head. This beer has a light smell to it with notes of hops, sugar, and caramel. Taste was better than expected. Full bodied beer with a sweet front and a slight bitter back. Mainly get caramel from the taste. Pretty good beer. phaleslu (514), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Sep 30, 2009 Updated: Oct 1, 200912 oz. bottle from The Party Source. Pours clear gold, just a little cloudy, with a medium off-white head that leaves some light lacing on the glass. Aroma of straw, grass, honey, yeast, malt. Flavor of malt, honey, bourbon, caramel, nuts, alcohol. Chewy mouthfeel, with active carbonation. Medium bodied. Boozy and overly sweet from start to finish. Lingering aftertaste of booze and honey. An unusual brew; not terrible but not something I’d seek out. Strangebrewer (221), Chatham, Ontario, Canada
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 29, 2009 bottle. Poured clear golden with a thinning slightly off-white head. Sweet alcohol cider aroma. Definetly full bodied. Active carbonation burns the tongue temporarely. Flavour is rich and malty with light caramel, almost like whisky. Finishes sweet with a bit metallic finish. Better than I had expected.
