Pours light orange amber with no bubbles and ZERO head. Aroma of caramel apple and sweet malts. Its good, but nothing compares to its big brother Samichlaus. The alcohol in this one burns where in Samichlaus its 14% but barely noticable. This one has a considerable bitterness to its barleywine like build, somehat metallic. The body again is nowhere near as good as Samichlaus. Too thin, syrupy, detached, weird carbonation. Samichlaus works because of the incredible balance, this beer lacks that completely and the dark malt base seems to be missing as well. I guess thats why they made a dunkel eisbock as well...

0.33 l bottle from a Merkur in Graz. It poured golden, much lighter body than I’ve expected, with bigger white head. Dusty, malty aroma, specially flowery, honey, a bit alcoholic with some other spices. Quite strong flavor, alcoholic, candy like bittersweet with a touch of metallicity that soon disappears turning into full bodied oily brew. Not complex at all, but pleasant, much more than let’s say malt liquors. Different than other doppelbocks, but interesting and quite nice winter beer.

Poured from bottle. Very dark gold, almost amber body with a very minimal head. Strong smell of alcohol and honey in the nose. Creamy, strong taste of alcohol and caramel. Candy-sweet accents. I don’t typically enjoy strong brews, but this one is okay, and I really like the sweetness that balances out the strong presence of alcohol.

Beautiful nose of malt, nuts, light amber color witha simple head. Flovor is malty, light acidity, dry and crisp in the mouth shooting to the side of your tongue and back of mouth with a long malty finish.

Draft pour at the Saloon in D.C. and in a bottle. Quite a thick feeling beer. Stays with you and lets you know it’s there. Not unpleasant for all of that though. Good malty flavor with maybe just a touch to much of an alcohol kick.

11.2oz bottle-pours a white head and gold color. Aroma is light malt-caramel, earthy/some perfumy/spicy hops. Taste is perfumy and syrupy first, which becomes perfumy/spicy hops and equal light malt-caramel which doesn’t really balance, alcohol. OK carbonation. not my taste.

Bottle. Very nice copper colour with a very small head, which lasts. A very nice sweet and malty aroma, which tingles the senses. The flavor is that of sugar, and a pervasive alcohol note. Thoroughly enjoyable to those who prefer their beer with a "bite". True to the Eggenberg style!
