Jul 3, 2007 bottle - Pours clear golden with almost no head. It has a caramel malt aroma with a hint of dark fruit. The flavor is dominated by the sweet malts. Lightly carbonated, full bodied, and with a definite alcohol presence in the flavor, this beer goes down with a lightly bitter, alcohol finish. It’s pretty good, but I expected more complexity.

Jul 1, 2007 (330 ml bottle from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/maine/portland/ target=blank>Downeast Beverage Co.) Kind of harsh and thin...Pours clear golden, slightly orangish. Just a wisp of a whitish head. Aroma of honey and molasses, and a little deeper is brown sugar and raisins. Mouthfeel is rather light, a bit thin, syrupy and lightly sticky. Also finishes quite dry. Flavor is sweet and malty, carrying most elements of the aroma but somehow they don’t all come together that well. A thin, bit strange-tasting doppel. Also fairly hot through finish. Not in the same class as their excellent Dunkel Eisbock.

Jun 30, 2007 11 oz draft, Bavarian Lodge Lisle, IL. Medium amber color with a full, frothy head. Nose is complex, but somewhat unrefined. Apple cider, rasins, molasses, and aged cheese seemed to dominate. Alcohol definitely present(10.2 abv on the menu), but I did not find it completely overwhelming like alot of other reviewers have. Nice creamy texture but this is not the easiest beer to drink. Can’t quite put my finger on why. Will have try again at a later date.

Jun 30, 2007 Bottle. Normal lager colour, clear. Small white head. Aroma of... alcohol. I see a point in this having a lot of fruity notes, but it’s just not handling the ABV very well.

Jun 28, 2007 Pours a nice golden color with a white head that quickly fades. Has a sweet alcohol aroma. Strong alcohol flavor with sweet hints of caramel. Very pleasant.

Jun 17, 2007 Orange / golden with a small white foam. Sweet and malty tones. Lots of alcohol with some maltiness. Full body with a bittersweet, metallic finish.

Jun 4, 2007 The appearance is light amber with a small fast disappearing baige head. Very strong sweetmalty aroma with notes of honney and grain. The texture is thick and low carbonated. Flavor is quite strong and complex, bears a resemblance to whiskey, but sweeter. Its interesting, but too much alchohol and sweetness for me.

Jun 1, 2007 12 oz bottle split w/ Dan. Clear straw color, light carbonation with a small off white head. Aroma: Sweet, grains, sweet pils malt, alcohol. Taste is also sweet grains/ pils malt, with notes of ethanol. medium bodied, overall it tastes like a really strong pils. well made, but didn’t hold my attention very well.
