Flavor is quite strong, malty with some caramel. Alcohol is evident, but still drinkable mike mcneil (660), St Augustine, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 3, 2007 Pours a clear golden-copper color; much paler than expected for a dopplebock. Produces a paper-thin off white head which fades immediately to just a few small smears of foam. Aroma is dominated here a bit too strongly by the alcohol with fainter notes of ripe pear, apple, apricot, banana, spice and light malts struggling to make their presence known. Overall the aroma is clean and sweet. Mouthfeel reveals a smooth, slightly oily and sticky texture with a pleasant, fine carbonation. Flavor profile starts out quite sweet and fruity with notes of honey, pear, green apple, caramel candy and a Grape-Nut cereal maltiness. This initial sweetness is quickly interupted by a moderately hot alcohol blast followed immediately by a somewhat surprising hefty hop bitterness. Would have preferred a slightly sweeter finish on this one. The hoppy bitter finish seemed a bit harsh and heavy-handed; kind of unusual for the style. In summary a decent Dopplebock, but not very interesting or complex. Wouldn’t go out of my way for another one. joebrew (608), Farewell Minny; Hello Puyallup, Washington, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 25, 2007 Pours a translucent amber w/ almost no head. The look is not really that of a dopple, but the nose is better. Aromas of banana, smoke, fig, apricot, peach, amd a hint of alchohol.
The flavor is extremely complex. Not really what I consider a dopple, but fantastic nonetheless. Flavors of banana and tropical fruit are accented by a nutty componentand a good alchohol burn. This beer to me is like a mix of a botrytis wine and a pils. Very complex with a great finish. Not a standard dopple, but one of my new favorite digestif’s. TheBeerOrg (1583), Kentucky, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 20, 2007 Pours dark golden with orangish hues and a fully receding off-white head. Aroma of sweet bready malt, lager yeast, and increasing amounts of alcohol as the beer warms. Taste is sweet, chewy and malty, with high alcohol notes and low hoppiness to give the malt center stage. Mouthfeel is full to heavy bodied, slighty sticky with alcohol burn and lush carbonation. This bottle was still young by the standards of this beer. It needs time. Very cellerable. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 13, 2007 Bottle. Small white and quickly disappearing head. Clear amber body. Aroma of rye and alcohol. Flavor as the aroma with fruity notes and low carbonation. As far as I remember it was a year 2000 version, still it had a rather sharp edge. Grovlam (3810), Copenhagen, Denmark
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 9, 2007 Bottle, 2000 vintage tasting @ Den Tatoverede Enke, Copenhagen. This is by fare the oldest cellared beer that I have ever tasted. Again I haven’t had this beer fresh, so I had nothing to compare it with. Still I thought this was a very interesting experience in my struggle to find great tasting beer from all over the world. Head was spare and what was there might have been white. Head was also immediately diminished. Lacing was spare to none exciting. Color was clear and light amber-golden. I thought the aroma was very complex with notes of heavy malt as the predominant. Rye bread, grain, nutty, toasted and some pear and peach in there as well. I defiantly had a feeling that there was some sulphur to be detected in the nose as well. However at the tasting they did not agree with me on that one. Full bodied with a light alcoholic texture and a very flat carbonation. Flavor was heavy sweet, with light balance of bitterness. Finish was sweet and average lasting. With the cellaring, this was quit an amazing Experian. yayforbeer (648), Orange Park, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 8, 2007 .33l bottle. Slightly hazy, clear golden beer with a small white head that drops to a ring. Pleasant fruity, malty aroma with an alcohol note. Flavor is very malty and alcoholic, a little sweet but not overly so. Sort of a high proof malt liquor, with just a touch of saaz bitterness at the end. Tasty, complex, and a really nice alcohol hit that is well disguised though not completely hidden. Immediately interesting, and enjoyable throughout. Mette (224), Frederiksberg, Denmark
