Raisins and port in the nose, very alcoholic. Same in the mouth, plus slight caramel. A staple during the cold winter months. JonMoore (1561), Loughborough, Leicestershire, England

Sweet and malty taste. Low carbonation, chewy-ish mouthfeel, late warming alcohol. Not bad, but rough around the edges. LilKem (1210), Marietta, Ohio, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 5, 2005 330ml bottle obtained from Torrence Liquors, Calumet City IL. Slightly alcoholic, citrusy and white grape aroma. No head, little carbonation. Lovely clear golden color -- defintely the lightest colored doppelbock I’ve seen. While there is plenty of malt sweetness and some fruit notes, the flavor is drier than the aroma would suggest. Think of it as more of a "doppel vienna lager." Moderate hop bitterness. Not very lively on the tongue, a bit thick going down. A competent, solid doppel but nothing too special. GarethYoung (1110), Glasgow, Scotland

Aroma is basic and the taste is nothing out of the ordinary. Smooth and slightly bitter. Alcohol is hidden nicely. BBB63 (4267), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 24, 2005 Bottle served in my La Chouffe glassware:
Pours a rich amber hue with a small fizzy head and almost no lace. The aroma has notes of honey, over ripened apple, juniper berry, caramel malt, grassy and floral hops, and a hint of peatmoss. The taste starts highly sweet and fruity. The bite upon the finish is more driven by the alcohol and hop spice than bitterness. A hint of oxidition and earthy qualities as well. The feel is heavy and sticky, as bit cloy. Overall, it is good but nowhere near the level of Samichlaus. I also, don’t agree taht this is the right style of this beer. It is a big Maibock and should be listed as a Bock or European Strong Lager.
