Don’t know really what to say, like all Castle Eggenberg beers available here, it’s damn expensive (a little less than 3 Euro for this one), and I really don’t know if it was worth it. It’s quite strong, both alcohol and flavor wise, with a pretty golden colour and a small white head. The flavor reveals... not much, lots of malt, some fruity hints, and of course, the alcohol, and isn’t very enjoyable. Overall, it seems it’s pretty bland for a doppelbock. Maybe another bottle will reveal more for me, but because of the price, I won’t be buying more soon.

Open this bottle and the aroma immediately tells you this is a serious beer, not to be trifled with. It pours nearly flat (it’s vintage 2002) with a short white head that quickly dissipates and has a surprisingly light, golden brown color. The aroma is of sweet caramel-y malt, and the first sip is a smooth cascade of mild malt, honey, and maybe vanilla flavors, but there’s no alcohol burn....undoubtedly because the aging of the bottle has softened this monster around the edges. Hops are barely noticeable; this beer relies on a double dose of malt for most of its character. A strong bock indeed, but tempered with age.

I really expected a darker and thicker beer than this. Thin, white head with good carbonation. Reforms nice upon swirling. Slightly fruity aroma with some malts but not alot. Kind of bland. Color is a medium gold. Flavor is smooth but bland also. Strong alcohol kick with a bit of fruit. This beer is starting to grow on me the more I drink. Must be the alcohol. Finish is clean and has a nice warming from the alcohol. All around a somewhat bland beer but still a decent drink.

Pours an airy off-white head on a clear golden body. Strong and sweet alcoholic and fruity aroma with tones of malt. Flavor is also very heavy sweet and somewhat cloying. Malt, fruit, citrus and hop. Quite harsh and alcoholic in the finish. Not really a beer for me, it is way too heavy and harsh and not very complex at all. Is it really a doppelbock?

Bottle Pours a crystal clear light golden with a nice fluffy off-white head, settling to leave spotty course lacing. Aroma is of sweet malt, vanilla, butterscotch and lightly toased grain. Flavor is malty and quite sweet. The ABV is not hidden very well, but is not unpleasant. Feel is quite smooth and heavy, and the finish is slightly hopy/bitter but seems balanced. Interesting.

Not very similar to any doppelbocks’ I’ve had. Nice orangey amber color with thin white head that fizzles away quickly. Fruity, malty aroma that is engorged with alcohol. Flavor is sweet and spicy with apples, pears and a little vanilla. Palate is OK but not overly tasty. Very creamy though. Similar to other Eggenberg brew’s in that it is very sweet. OK sipper but no "cognac" here.

Light gold. Light head around the edge. Strong alcohol aroma. Lightly sweet delicious malt. Alcohol edge. Awesome.
