Commercial Description:
Tradition reborn - Eisbock Kraftbier, a beer with patina, over 100 years old, once prescribed as a medicine for weak recovering patients - is currently celebrating its renaissance as URBOCK DUNKEL EISBOCK. Brewed with special dark malt and fermented with traditional Eggenberg yeast, this beer has a maturation period of up to nine months. Dark brown in color with an alcohol content of almost 10% by volume, URBOCK DUNKEL EISBOCK has a pleasant, full, and creamy body, with the aroma of coffe, surprisingly light on the tongue despite the alcohol content. Warming with toffee-like malty sweetness, balanced by a hoppy-bitterness in the finish, it is a power beer, as its traditional Austrian name says, best enjoyed after dinner or as an evening drink.

Darker brown color with some brown sugar, dark fruit, and molasses in the aroma. Flavor is quite sugary and very concentrated with dark fruit and coffee. Thick feel. The "eising" really makes this one tasty.

12oz bottle from mreusch. 7/8/08. Thanks Matt! Opened at alohaCs 2008 end of the year tasting. Super malty aroma. Tons of melanoidins amplified by the ethanol in the aroma. Sweetish. Not easy to drink. Not very good, but at least I get another eisbock rating.

Bottled. A dark amber beer with a fast disappearing brown head. The aroma is very sweet malty with strong notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of both alcohol, caramel, and pumpernickle bread.

On tap @ in de Wildeman, last winter. Reddish brown, off-white head. Aroma of sweet roasted malts, caramel, some dark fruits and alcohol. Flavour is very sweet, malty, caramel, dark fruits, slight alcohol bitterness. Way too sweet for me.

Bottled. POurs a clear dark brown with garnet highlights and a small fizzy off white head. The aroma, behind dark fruits and caramel malt exhibited quite a bit of sweetness. There is also alcohol and cookie dough present in the nose. The flavor mimcs the nose almost exactly: dark fruits, caramel malt, dough, and more alcohol than the nose indicated. There is also the addition of some hoppiness in the finish. Body is on the strong side of medium. Has a little viscous feel. This turned out to be a sweet surprise for a random single I picked up.
