Commercial Description:
Tradition reborn - Eisbock Kraftbier, a beer with patina, over 100 years old, once prescribed as a medicine for weak recovering patients - is currently celebrating its renaissance as URBOCK DUNKEL EISBOCK. Brewed with special dark malt and fermented with traditional Eggenberg yeast, this beer has a maturation period of up to nine months. Dark brown in color with an alcohol content of almost 10% by volume, URBOCK DUNKEL EISBOCK has a pleasant, full, and creamy body, with the aroma of coffe, surprisingly light on the tongue despite the alcohol content. Warming with toffee-like malty sweetness, balanced by a hoppy-bitterness in the finish, it is a power beer, as its traditional Austrian name says, best enjoyed after dinner or as an evening drink.

Just another reason why I like the Eisbock style so much. Nice dark reddish-brown color on the pour....medium sized brownish head. Malty nose, sweetness, caramel, earthy. Flavor is more sweet malts, toffee, alcohol, light hop bitterness---barely. Medium bodied....very nice beer.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, blankboy & tupalev - courtesy of HogTownHarry. Deep mahogany colour with minimal head. Aroma is rich and vinous, with notes of caramelized sugar and dark fruit. Flavour is very nice as well, with notes of caramel, oak & whiskey. A little sweet for regular drinking, but as an occassional treat, it’s very nice indeed.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow & tupalev -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. I can’t say that I care much for the label on this bottle, it’s quite ugly. Pours a clear dark brown with a small white head. Very sweet aroma of malt, brown sugar and dark fruit. Flavour of sweet malt, brown sugar and alcohol. Thin bodied. A little too sweet for me, I found it just O.K.

Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry, GregClow, and Blankboy, courtesy of Harry. Dark brown, small bubbly tan head. Interesting very sweet and strong aroma. Strong sweet taste that was a little harsh. Thin body. Burning alcohol all the way down. A little syrupy. Not bad, but completely one-dimensional and therefore, not terribly enjoyable.

Bottle (330ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow and tupalev - my bottle. Poured deep clear amber-brown, minimal off-white head. Aroma redolent with smoke, wood resin, sweet mossy malt - incredible. Taste is woody, malty and mossy, darkly sweet and smoky, but muted - needs aging and more body. Mouthfeel syrupy but a little thin - terrific, more people should experience brews like this, maybe they’d shut the hell up about the superiority of wine. Babies.

330ml bottle. Sweet, sugary malt aroma, rich, dark and toffeeish, accented by a generous amount of medicinal alcohol and notes of light, milky chocolate, black bread, fig, anise, pepper and raisin. Medium dark brown color with dark amber highlights and a very slight, fine head that yet leaves delicate spots of lace here and there. Bittersweet and nutty to start, turning significantly maltier, fruitier and sweeter with hints of licorice and butterscotch before a long, warming, peppery, spicy, bitter finish. Exceedingly smooth on the palate, low in carbonation with a decidedly full body. Very powerful indeed and satisfying, good balance as well. I’m happy to have another bottle stashed away, perhaps awaiting another winter.

Dark reddish brown body with no head. Once again high alcohol renders no sign of carbonation. Aroma is dominated by malt with huge caramel and some coffee. Also some earth and raisins there. Flavor is the same with a sweet finish and a chewy mouthfeel. Once again a really nice beer from this brewery.

Pours very dark brown with an off white head. Aroma is very fruity. Mostly dark fruits like plums and raisins. Flavor is very malty, has tons of fruit and a nice creamy feeling in the mouth. I really like this beer!!
