Commercial Description:
Tradition reborn - Eisbock Kraftbier, a beer with patina, over 100 years old, once prescribed as a medicine for weak recovering patients - is currently celebrating its renaissance as URBOCK DUNKEL EISBOCK. Brewed with special dark malt and fermented with traditional Eggenberg yeast, this beer has a maturation period of up to nine months. Dark brown in color with an alcohol content of almost 10% by volume, URBOCK DUNKEL EISBOCK has a pleasant, full, and creamy body, with the aroma of coffe, surprisingly light on the tongue despite the alcohol content. Warming with toffee-like malty sweetness, balanced by a hoppy-bitterness in the finish, it is a power beer, as its traditional Austrian name says, best enjoyed after dinner or as an evening drink.

Pours dark brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is malty with lots of dark fruit. Flavor is loaded with dark fruit, plums and raisins. This tastes amazing. Very smooth and soothing. Could drink this all day.

Bottle. Pours lush, deep amber/brown. Aroma is sweet malt and a bit of sour something or another. Flavor is full-on mollasses and malt, with a coppery aftertaste that keeps it from being a great beer. Palate is adequate. Overall it’s interesting, but I can’t get past the copper aftertaste.

A new, and very welcome, arrival at John’s. Dark brown body with a little amber coloring. The head is a light yellowish white color. The aroma is rich and buttery with some caramel. There are also hints of coffee. The taste is mossy mushrooms and caramel. There is a finish of toffee and a little chocolate. This is a thick and chewy beer. A little hot in the aftertaste. Definitely a sipper. I think this would mellow out nicely with a few years on it.

Sweet malt and slightly off-character sour-grain aroma. Very nice intense ruby-red-brown body with medium snow-white head that continues to form at the rim of the glass as bubbles make their way up the sides several minutes after being poured. Smooth malt sweetness and gentle warm alcohol dominate the flavor; little hop flavor, some bitterness, and an unfortunate dash of metallic flavor. Lively and exceptionally smooth palate. Take away the metallic flavor and it’s a great eisbock.

Great Caesar’s Shorts!, this is an excellent brew! The pour is at first unimpressive, dark and nigh unto headless. Hold it up to the light, and this thick beer’s clear mahogany body glistens with ruby highlights... highlights that continue to glow away from the bright lights. Draw close, and smell the hot sweet malt aroma, toffee... and there’s plum, coffee, raisin, and a splash of chocolate. And heat. Imagine cream on fire - - that’s the mouthfeel of this eisbock. The flavor is toffee and caramel and dark juicy fruits and chocolate and licorice and peppers... all blended with great skill for my great pleasure. The finish is a burning, sweet caramel flavor with a facial slap from some late arriving, earthy hops. MORE!

11.2 oz capped bottle: thin, ivory coloured and creamy, retentive head. Sweet toffee, cocoa, dark malts, apple core, and honeyed tobacco. Thick, caramely palate that hides the alcohol fairly well and also exudes a rich earthness that mixes well with the dark plums and smoked nuts. A sweet and tasty after dinner drink.
