Alcohol is present but it’s kept under wraps thanks to the beer’s smooth character. badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA

The taste is much the same: soy, salt, malt, with a bit of bacon at the end. If you’re not a fan of the semi-sweet and salt mix, bail on this one! JFGrind (1353), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA

Malty sweetness is present, all ingredients are combined to make a great Austrian beer. BBB63 (4238), La Porte, Indiana, USA

The aroma has heavy caramelized and smoked malting, brown sugar, fig and prune, floral and grassy hops, earthy esters and allspice. The taste starts malty sweet with a subdued fruity background. I get some bittersweet chocolate, smoke, and mild bitters. Well balanced all things considered. The feel is lush and heavy yet enough bite on the aftertaste to keep it interesting. A nice warmer for sure and surprisingly complex. Yummy! mark2hu (3), north wales, Pennsylvania, USA does not count | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 23, 2005 delightful brew. could easily lose track of the high alc content. nice deep color, well balanced. | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Apr 20, 2005 Deep mahogany in color. Simply beautiful. Impressive, 1" foamy mass for a head. Aroma predominantly consists of caramel, figs and a dash of pepper and cinnamon. Very rich in flavor - buttercream, caramel and pecans. Maple / oak undertones compliment a Dutch chocolate-like sweetness. Body is smooth and sweet; heavy and solid. Extraordinarily balanced. Slight alcohol twang on the tongue and warming in the throat, but otherwise, the high ABV is well-masked. Smooth and seductive. Well done. An impressive Eisbock. Dark brown body with a good head and decent lacing left on the glass. Had a lower flavor at first but after reading the description I had noticed this was used as medicine. That was the flavor I detected a sweet cough syurp with a mild stale aftertaste. Decent beer turbo (1254), Arizona, USA
