Vinous with long, lingering alcohol, but little burn. Clear moderate brown color, not especially thick. Enjoyable. willblake (2180), Belcamp, Maryland, USA

Pours birch-beer crimson brown with modest tan head that fades to trace. Aromas deep and vinous, sherry, coffee ice cream aromas, nutmeg, rum-soaked raisins. Potent alcohol is perfectly masked within the aromas, but integrated wonderfully. Do you have any tobacco? This beer has. Chewy plug tobacco presents itself on the palate along with a nice nutty malt balance. As sweet as it is, the sugary aspect is countered by a rich smokey character. Big liquor (cognac, sherry) flavors but never overbearing. The balance of this brew is outstanding. Wow! Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 21, 2004 Bottle. Nose is strong of dried cherry and sweet caramel. Flavor notes that come out are dried cherry, grape, alcohol sweetness, and brown sugar. Very, very good beer. goldtwins (4084), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 17, 2004 Poured a mahogany. Small to medium off white head. Aroma is sweet of raisins, plums, caramel and alcohol. Flavor continues with the dark fruits, some spices, and alchol both in flavor and throat warming. Full bodied and syrupy. I actually spilled some on me and my shirt and hand was sticky from it. Long sweet finish. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 11, 2004 Moderate carbonation in a viscous, crystal clear, dark caramel-brown body with a ruby tone and a minimal light grayish-tan head. Intoxicating nose of toffee, bread crusts, raisins, prunes, a touch of chocolate, and alcohol. Malty flavor with some oxidized notes and considerable residual sweetness. Nice long aftertaste but not what I would call cloying. Little noticeable hop character except for some mild earthy bitterness in the long finish which does lend some roundness to the flavor. Quite the belly-warmer. Full, viscous, mostly flat, smooth mouthfeel. A very enjoyable eisbock. This style shows yet another splendid facet of the vast beer universe. MAP (1089), Lakewood, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 28, 2004 Dark brown color, with not much head. The flavor is rather full actually. great malt and caramel representations and a smooth palate. The alcohol is a little obvious, but nothing too obtuse. I really like the finish on the brew because it just fills the mouth with a slightly smokey malt presence and smooth mouthfeel. aracauna (2391), Georgia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 27, 2004 This is a low carbonation beer. The head is weak and shortlived, but the dark mahogany body has a nice glow when it catches the light. Brown sugar and prunes make up the bulk of the aroma with some dates and nutmeg backing that up. The flavor is pretty sweet. Something like a gingersnap cookie even down to the little sugar granules on top. This was actually a little better than I was expecting. Clear, dark crimson hue, with a nice, 1/4" head of beigey foam.
Aroma, fruity at first, even starkly so, raisins, dates, plums, dark cherries, and berries, with a touch of spices...powerful stuff, yeasty, bready, a rich mix of flavors, like a cinnamon/ginger cookie, with booze added!
Taste: full-bodied, and thick with malt, rich flavor returns with every sip, dark, and ominous, a massive amount of flavor, even dangerous...not sure if I’ve ever had a dunkel eisbock before, but this is a damned good example. Has a solidly alcoholic feel, though still tingly and tasty...a good perk-you-up in dire times!
