Commercial Description:
Tradition reborn - Eisbock Kraftbier, a beer with patina, over 100 years old, once prescribed as a medicine for weak recovering patients - is currently celebrating its renaissance as URBOCK DUNKEL EISBOCK. Brewed with special dark malt and fermented with traditional Eggenberg yeast, this beer has a maturation period of up to nine months. Dark brown in color with an alcohol content of almost 10% by volume, URBOCK DUNKEL EISBOCK has a pleasant, full, and creamy body, with the aroma of coffe, surprisingly light on the tongue despite the alcohol content. Warming with toffee-like malty sweetness, balanced by a hoppy-bitterness in the finish, it is a power beer, as its traditional Austrian name says, best enjoyed after dinner or as an evening drink.

A short lived, tan head arose from the golden brown pour. It has a thick and slightly sweet aroma. A blackish brown body with crimson colors with light. Initially, it was almost too sweet. It balanced out very well. It reminded me of caramel and brown sugar. The alcohol was completely hidden until it warmed up a bit. Even then it was minor.

Clear dark brown appearance, decent head formation. Strong, pronouced malty aroma, Baked bread, soy, prunes, hazelnuts. Sweet strong sugarry fruitcake palate. Very sweet like chewing on toffee apple (better go brush my teeth after rating). Sugar wholwheat bread flavors linger longinto the aftertaste. Too strong and too sweet for my tastes but I appreciate it as well crafted and being much more drinkable than EKU.

Bottle pours brown with red hues, small dishwater like head, with sporatic lacing.   Large dark malt, fig, plum, raisin, and toffee aroma.   Definite alcohol note, but it will be interesting to see how it comes across across on flavor.   Slightly sweet and smooth up front.   Nice chewy/malty flavor, with a light dark pitted fruit flavor.   Alcohol is well masked.   This is almost too easy to drink! Good body, mouthfeel is so-so tho.   Yeah, I'd have this one again!

A very tasty and very complex little ale. Lots of complexity throughout, chocolate and caramel, with some toffee as well, an excellent malt backbone. A slightly musky aroma, with some alchohol present in the aroma, but not in the taste. Finish is slightly syrupy, but very tasty overall.

Barrel-aged aroma with hints of chocolate. From a bit of a distance, smells like my grandfather’s liquor cabinet. Deep mahogany color with a slightly off-white, mostly diminishing head and excellent lace. I love Urbock’s appearance; it is dark, dignified and masculine. Very sweet flavor with a solid alcohol mouthfeel. However, it tastes a lot lower than 9.8% and thus hides its ABV well. This could well serve as a dessert beer. If I could identify one flaw it is that it is a little too flatly carbonated, giving it a bit of a syrupy feel. But otherwise, this is one fine brew.

Pours a dark amber color with a small white head atop with some lacing. The aroma is caramel sweetness and some sugary notes. Flavor is sweet like candy with a good malt backbone. Some bitter notes as well. Body is full and alcoholic, but not overly so. A good brew.
