Commercial Description:
Tradition reborn - Eisbock Kraftbier, a beer with patina, over 100 years old, once prescribed as a medicine for weak recovering patients - is currently celebrating its renaissance as URBOCK DUNKEL EISBOCK. Brewed with special dark malt and fermented with traditional Eggenberg yeast, this beer has a maturation period of up to nine months. Dark brown in color with an alcohol content of almost 10% by volume, URBOCK DUNKEL EISBOCK has a pleasant, full, and creamy body, with the aroma of coffe, surprisingly light on the tongue despite the alcohol content. Warming with toffee-like malty sweetness, balanced by a hoppy-bitterness in the finish, it is a power beer, as its traditional Austrian name says, best enjoyed after dinner or as an evening drink.

Dark brown color with nice sized head. Mild aromas of malt and hops. I love bocks and this may be the best I have head. Rich, sweetness with a mellow smokiness. Nice bitter finish.

ruby hued body, nutty and dark. thin, off white head, well carbonated. Strong and rich. ripe fruits and leathery tones, alcohol anf a sweet grainy character. Stale, musty finish. well balanced, especially compared to the regular eisbock from eggenberg. I like. well balanced, nutty, fruity and well rounded

Not much in the way of aroma; pours with a nice, creamy head; heavy, rich and slightly fruity taste with some coffee, toffee and carmel flavors, and heavy maltyness that kicks ya hard but doesn't overwhelm; sweet, smooth, and quite strong; real nice.

Poured a dark ruby color with an off white head that quickly dissipated. Sweet caramel malt and alcohol in the aroma. Certainly there is a meaty aspect to this beer's aroma. Sweet and fruity traste, that turns dry and alcoholic. Fairly average mouthfeel.

Beer pours ruby red in color with an off white head that rapidly diminishes. Aroma is quite dopplebockish, with malt being the predominant aroma with a hefty note of alcohol as well. Flavor is malty sweet with alcohol. Also some roasted nut in the flavor and some earthiness I suppose from the lon maturation. Interesting but kinda weird.

Update 3/4/2004 - Having worked through 7 of these over the past month or so I feel that I must update my rating:. This beer presents a gorgeous sparkling dark brown ruby body topped by a fantastic creamy light brown head. This is one fine looking beer. Aroma is caramel, sweet toffee and meaty gravy. The flavors are excellent complements to the smorgasbord of aromas, toffee, earthy and meaty flavors also abound, meaty in a good way. The body is big and chewy, so big that it coats the teeth with a wonderful sheet that the tongue just keeps on savoring. This is a very good beer. Eggenberg is one hell of a brewery. In fact I would go so far as to say that Eggenberg makes the best lagers around.

Dark pour with light brown edges, big foamy head with some lacing. Sweet aromas of malt, almost a maple syrup touch to it. Small hops. Flavors are follow the aroma pretty well. Not as much malt to it, the hops balance the beer out fairly well. Full bodied, syrup like palate.
